William H. Carr b1788 had two daughters who md Mansell. Mary (not in her father's estate settlement) died 1856-7 and was buried Lovelady Cem. Her husband was David Mansell who I note a note married 2nd Catherine (Bohannon) Henry. Mary & David were married for about 26 years but I have no listing of children. I have that they had 4 children (Samuel M, Sarah F, John R & Albert F b 1849. William Mansell married 2) Elizabeth Burnett and had Hannah b1873 and Nancy Jane b1871. I have a note that Wm Mansell's sister was Susannah Mansell. Many years ago I was in touch with Edna Bond Ripley of Ironton, MO who had some Mansell info but she died and I can not locate her work.

DAVIS, BENNETT

My mom was from Cookeville, TN, and passed away 1/15/05 in Xenia, OH. We never could trace her background back very far. Her dad was Jasper Denton (Jack) Davis, and her mom was M C Davis. MC had 4 children (the 3 girls from Jasper)- Doska Jewel, Marie, Jackie, and Bob Vestal. Mom's great or great-great grandparents were John Byrd Davis and Minda (Mindy) Elvira Nancy Davis who was allegedly a Cherokee which I understand was not looked upon favorably back then, tho her heritage is more respected now. Mom's (Doska Jewel) uncle was a sheriff or deputy sheriff w/theCookeville city or county police. When my brother Brett Kilner visited Cookeville approx 1990, he met the officer's son who was then in law enforcement. With mom and dad now gone, the family genealogy has been passed on to me. I would like to trace the family back as far as I can, and hope that someone can help with some of the missing information. What's sad is I also have some pictures with no ID... Would be happy to share what I do have info. andf

ELMORE

ELMORE misspelled as ELLMOBE 1860 census for Double Springs,Putnam CO. TN: I have personal family history and have seen the family bible for this family. The original census taker spelled the surnames incorrectly as ELLMOBE. The correct family surnames are ELMORE. This can probably be attributed to the fact that the wives of both households were illiterate, the husbands were probably out in the fields. In P109-29, the 60 yr old GW Elmore is my ggg grandfather, in P109-32, the 30 yr old GW Elmore is my gg grandfather, and his son Hiram is my great grandfather. In P108-32, JA Elmore is brother to P109-32 GW Elmore. webpage address: Putnam, TN 1860 Federal Census ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/xtn/putnam/1860/ (File 6 of 10) Hope this helps someone!

PETER KIRBY

Deaths as reported in the Putnam County Hearld News 1904: There was a killing here (Goffton) Sunday night. Elijah RANDOLPH went to the house of Dudley KIRBY about ten o'clock and broke down the door where KIRBY'S sister and daughter were. KIRBY heard him and went out of his room and RANDOLPH shot him. Peter KIRBY, a brother to Dudley, heard the shooting, came to his brother's home and shot RANDOLPH, who died the next day. (Date 03/02/1904, Vol. II, No. 4, page 6) RANDOLPH was my g-grandfather: he died 02/29/1904 at the age of 55. I would really like to know more about the story. Would it be possible for some one to look up any subsequent articles, possibly regarding the trial of Peter Kirby, that might explain what he was doing there in the first place, and e-mail them to me? Please e-mail regarding any costs involved.
