Know all men by these presents, that for the consideration hereinafter named, we, H.J. Wright and wife Dora Wright, have this day bargained, sold, aligned and conveyed and do by these presents, sell and convey unto J.M. Hughes the following described tract or parcel of land situated and being in civil district N.1., Crockett County, Tenn., and bounded as follows, to – wit: – On the north by the lands of Ellington; on the south by the lands of J.L. Bickerstaff; on the east by the lands of Turner; on the west by the lands of Richards; containing by estimation, (17) Seventeen acres, more or less; it being a part of a tract of land formerly owned by Mrs. Nancy Wright decreased, We further covenant and agree with the said J.M. Hughes that we are lawfully seized of said land and have a right to convey the same, it being unencumbered; and that we will warrant, and forever defend the title there to against the lawful claims of any and all persons whomsoever; and the said Dora Wright hereby releases and relinquishes all right of homestead and dower in and to said land or any part thereof, The consideration for said land is one hundred and fifty ($150.00) Dollars cash in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, In testimony whereof we have hereto affixed our signatures, This November 8th 1897.

Personally appeared before me, D.B. Dodson, clerk of the county court of said county, the above named H.J. Wright the bargainer with whom I am personally acquainted; and acknowledged that he executed the within instrument for the purposes therein contained, And Dora Wright wife of the said H.J. Wright, having personally appeared before me, privately and apart from her husband, the said Dora Wright acknowledged the execution of the said instrument, to have been done by her, freely, voluntarily, and understandingly, without compulsion or constraint from said husband and for the purposes therein expressed, Witness, D.B. Dodson, clerk of said court, at office, this 8th day of Nov. 1897.
