Benjamin Franklin Jeffreys/Jeffries was born on October 4, 1855 in Loudon County, Tennessee and was the son of Solomon and Rebecca (Smith) Jeffreys/Jeffries. Benjamin died May 3, 1931 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee and was buried May 5, 1931 in New Gray Cemetery, Knox County, Tennessee. He married Nancy L. "Nance" Chavis on June 17, 1881 in Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee. Nancy was born on October 4, 1861 in Wheat, Loudon County, Tennessee and was the daughter of Peter Chavis and Anna Evans. Nancy died Jan 14, 1929 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee and was buried in New Gray Cemetery, Knox County, Tennessee. Benjamin and Nancy had 11 children.

Five of their children, Peter, Maud, Ella, Bobbie, and Lucy died either as infants or in early childhood. The remaining children lived to adulthood.

  • Elmer Sharp was born in Clinton, Tennessee and died in Anderson County, Tennessee. He first married Debbie Lea Crowder on December 24, 1920 and then married Nannie Ellen Bunch.
  • Samuel Authur was born in Jellico, Campbell County, Tennessee and died in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky. He is buried in the Hensley Cemetery in Bell County, Kentucky. He married Nora Bell Sellers on November 14, 1901.
  • Minnie was born in Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee and died in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky. She is buried in Kentucky. She married Frank Shelby.
  • Mamie was born in Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee and died in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. She is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Knox County, Tennessee. She married John C. Ridings.
  • Van was born and died in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. She is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Knox County, Tennessee. She married William H. Matthews.
  • Myrtle was born in Red Ash, Kentucky. She married Lon Capps. She was still living in 1994.

  • Benjamin moved from Clinton, TN to Proctor, KY to work coal company that was 3 miles from Jellico, TN (source: Thelma Jeffries, granddaughter).
  • Death certificate for Benjamin Jeffries lists father as Solomon Jeffries as father and Rebecca Smith as mother. Both of TN.
