KEITH, KEETH, KEATH

I'm still "greatly" interested in "any" pre-1825 KEITH family information that gets discovered. Especially anything transcribed to the internet. Primarily in Jackson County, but some family members may have drifted over the county lines as they were being re-drawn around that time. I'm most interested in the family of Green Keith - probable brother to John Keith (born 1793) whose family is being heavily researched by others at this time. I'd greatly appreciate any information or directions to information that you can pass along to me. I have genealogy to present day following John B. Keith (b. 1825 and believed to be Green Keith's son) if you're interested.

MASSINGILLE

Poem appeared in Jackson Co. newspaper approx. 1936 MRS MARY LOU MASINGILL Death has again taken its toll from a home, that of a dear wife and friend. But our heavenly Father will give her soul a beautiful home that has no end. The character of this dear loved one was bright and joyful and loved by everyone. As a daughter she was obedient and sincere, as a wife she was kind, as a sister she was loved and was a friend to all who knew her. Mary Lou, when our work on earth is through, we pray that we may meet you in that Holy Home on high, where no soul shall ever die. Sleep on, dear Mary Lou, and take thy rest; God called you home. He thought it was best. It was not our will, but Thine be done. A Friend....... This is a poem about my Grandmother, Mary Lou NEELY MASSINGILLE, who died at age 33, leaving 5 small children behind. The family would like to know who the author was. Any information about this, would be appreciated. Thanks Donna

There were 6 Sadler households listed on the 1820 Jackson county census and I have eliminated several (Fanny, Henry, Thomas, and William), leaving only James and John. James SADLER evidently moved to MO, so that makes him doubtful. Does anyone know anything about John SADLER and his family?

DAVENPORT, DEBENPORT, DEVENPORT, WHEELER, CASSITTY, SLOAN, SLONE

Joseph DAVENPORT, b ca 1834 TN, on the 1860 census in Jackson Co, TN with wife Elizabeth and first son. Joseph died from wounds he received at the Battle of Chickamauga. His widow then took their two sons, Jubilee and Joseph Benjamin, and went to Grayson Co, TX, where her brother Jubilee WHEELER and his family resided. (Their father was Jubilee WHEELER and of Jackson Co, too.) Elizabeth WHEELER DAVENPORT married Ransom E. ELLIOTT, 21 Nov 1867 Grayson Co, TX. Her third marriage was to David ELLIOTT. On my next trip to Salt Lake City I plan on working on this DAVENPORT line (much has been done by others on the WHEELER line). Jackson Co, TN is one of those "burned" counties, so records are few and far between. Clues point to the possibility Joseph may be the son of Hannah (CASSITY) DEVENPORT/DAVENPORT. If so, she is the widow of Henry DAVENPORT and some work has been done on their origin in VA. Is there a tie to the Samuel SLOAN/SLONE family in Jackson Co, TN?

CLIMER, BUTLER, CARTER, BURTON

I am searching for the identity of the parents and/or siblings of my great-grandmother Amanda CLIMER, who was born in 1855 in TN and married 1)Howard BURTON of Jackson Co (son of George W. Burton) bef 1880; 2)Robert Lee BUTLER, my great-grandfather, (son of Demarcus Butler) in abt 1885; and 3)Andy CARTER (perhaps son of James Carter) in abt 1902. A son of Amanda once said that CLIMER was the name of the family who had raised Amanda and was not her birth name. I have no evidence either to prove or disprove that statement. While I have a fair amount of information on the BUTLER and CARTER children of Amanda Climer, I know almost nothing about her BURTON chilren who were named Leanda, Littleton, and Vadie BURTON. Any information or help in learning more about the children and the family origins of my great-grandmother will be greatly appreciated! PHILLIPS/POSTON

James Pierce Phillips and Elizabeth Poston Phillips are buried in the Hurricane Cemetery on Hwy.53 on your right going toward Celina. We were there a few weeks ago to take pictures of the three piece broken tombstone. In my new Jackson County Cemetery Inscriptions Book, Elizabeth is listed as being a Poston, but that is not on the tombstone. My question: Where did that POSTON information come from? Are there cemetery records that would be my badly needed 'proof'. Does anyone know the name, address of a person to contact about the Hurricane Cemetery records I would appreciate that, too.

CRUM

Peter Crum - 1835 Rev. War Pensioner - Does anyone have any information on this man? I believe he is my GGGGrandfather but cannot make a hard link. I am trying to find any information about him, such as any of his children's names, his wife's or wives' names, his mother and father's name, and where he lived before Jackson County. There is a whole group of people searching the lineage of Peter, Elias, Melinda and Hiram Crum and we are all at a brick wall with regards to who their father was. However, the name Peter appears several times in the following generations. Also, there was a Peter Crum in Greene County Tennessee in 1790 who, I believe, moved to Kentucky in the early 1800's and then very probably moved back to White County Tennessee around 1816. I am stumped as to whether this Peter Crum who lived in Jackson is the next link in our lineage. Anyone with information, please contact me at Darryl.Crum@viewitinc.com. Thank you

DYCUS, DICAS, DICUS

I will appreciate any information which connects my ancestor Elizabeth DICUS (1-19-1796 / 8-29-1852) with whom I assume is her father, Edward DYCUS (1-27-1753 / ca 1836). Edward was born in Rowan Co NC, lived in Rutherford Co NC and died in Jackson Co TN. Elizabeth was born in NC and moved with her family to Jackson Co TN where she was married on 11-19-1812 to Raulston RAY (6-9-1792 / 9-9-1883). Raulston RAY was the son of James RAY and Jane ALLISON. The early census records as to females and ages "fit" Elizabeth in Edward's home, but he died before the every-name 1850 census and I don't have his wife's name. I think perhaps Elizabeth was Edward's daughter by a second wife. The destruction of the Jackson County records leads me to a dead-end unless someone can help!

SUTTON, JACKSON

Looking for any information on Abraham ìAbeî SUTTON. He married Barbara Jane JACKSON. Barbara was born June 1840 in Jackson County, TN, died May 23, 1923 the daughter of Enoch and Senthia JACKSON. The story Iíve been told (donít know if itís true) - Sometimes in the early 1880ís, Abraham left his wife and children and went west with one of the Jacksonís. Probably one of Barbaraís relatives. Believed he went to Missouri, he was never heard from again. Abraham is not listed with the rest of the family in the 1880 census, could have done left. Abraham and Barbara were living in Jackson County TN. Barbara remained in Jackson County after Abraham left. Donít have anything on who his parents were or if he had any sibling. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Robert

TINSLEY'S BOTTOM, TN

My grandfather was William K. Tinsley and, at some point, his family settled and lived in Tinsley's Bottom, TN. It is possible my great-grandfather (first name unknown to me) helped establish Tinsley's Bottom. My deceased grandmother had a post card with Tinsley's Bottom postmark on it. I am interested in hearing from anyone who can provide information about my family and/or history of Tinsley's Bottom. Please reference "Tinsley's Bottom" in subject line if emailing.

CARTER, CASON, FLATT

I have received two different dates for the marriage of James Uriah Benjamin CARTER to Elizabeth Dewitt CASON, both of Jackson Co., Tn. One is in 1882, and the other is in 1885. Obviously one date is wrong, and I need proof of the correct one. I have evidence of their remarriage in 1907, but no Jackson Co. marriage record exists for their first marriage. Is there a family Bible? I also need proof of his later marriage to Belle Jackson FLATT and the date.

ROBERTS

Looking for information on John and Rebecca ROBERTS, my gggrandparents. John.. c.1807 KY or NC. Rebecca.. c.1810 KY or TN. They lived near what is now the Jackson/Overton/Putnam junction in the Waterloo community. He was injured in a powder mill explosion about 1835, later ran a grist mill in the same area. They appear in the 1850 Jackson census, in the 1860 Overton census, and in the 1870 Putnam census, all due to changes in county lines. Desperately need their parent's names and her maiden name.
