I am researching John WEBB (b. abt 1825 in Ireland? or TN?) and Louvica SMITH (b. abt 1829 in Jackson Co, Tn?) m. abt. 1839 or 1840. Their 1st child was born in 1840. They had 12 children the last of which was b. 1858. The family is found in the 1850 census for Smith Co but I believe that Smith was formed from Jackson Co. Later the whole family shows up in Iron Co, Mo in 1870 census, minus John Webb. What happened to him?Did he die or did he go back to Ireland? any info appreciated.

MAYFIELD Jack a Cherokee woman married Stephen Mayfeild and had four children before her death.Records show Stephen was already married to someone else in SC were he was born. He met Jack after he left to fight the Revalotionary War in the southern part of the states. The records show that Jack died and Stephen took their children and went to SC, got his wife there, and they all moved to Jackson County TN. I would like to know how to find out what tribe she was from. Records also say that she had a brother who wanted the children after her death and implies that he was in TN at that time.

Hello, I am Dr. Richard Cantrell and I was raised in Albany, Georgia. I was born in 1954 and my father was James Howard Cantrell. He was born in March 1915 or 1916, probably in Tennessee, his father was Marion CANTRELL. He supposedly was married to a Cherokee Indian, last name FRYE or FRY. As both grandparents passed on prior to my birth and my father spoke little of them except of his Indian heritage, I have little to go on. I know that my Grandparents were married in Tennessee probably at the turn of the century give or take ten years but I don't know the county or anything like that and I know that the Cantrell's came to Tennessee from Georgia or South Carolina. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am looking for information on the HARLEY, STAFFORD and SWEARENGIN families in Jackson, Overton, and Putnam Counties. These families apparently came from North Carolina to Tennessee at an early date and there were many marriages between them. I am especially interested in the ancestors of Robert and Joseph SWEARENGIN who were enumerated with Hiram and Elizabeth STAFFORD HARLEY (of Jackson County, Tn.) on the 1860 census in Webster County, Missouri. These children were born in about 1851/52 and 1856/57 respectively, Robert listed as born in Tennessee and Joseph listed as born in Missouri. On Joseph's death certificate his parents are listed as John E. SWEARENGIN and his mother as_______ HARLEY. It is known that Elizabeth HARLEY, daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth STAFFORD HARLEY married Hugh SWEARENGIN and that they moved to Greene, then to Webster County, Missouri sometime before the 1860!! census was taken.

I am looking for info on Daniel HICKS, my gg-grandfather. I believe that he was married to his first wife and had a child named Daniel, Jr. in ca. 1831 in Jackson County. Daniel was born in 1801. He later moved to Ohio County Ky and had a second child by his first wife named Brice. He later married my gg-grandmother Malinda Smith. Daniel lists his birthplace as SC in the 1850 census.

I am also looking for any information that may be had on the BLAIR family. My ggg-grandfather was Henry Brown BLAIR born ca. 1800. A book I have documenting Baptist church records says the Blair family moved to Edmonson County Ky. (Mammoth Cave area) from the Cumberland River area in Tennessee. If anyone has records or info on Blairs living in the area before 1825 I would appreciate hearing from them.

William married Celina STAFFORD and they had several children: Van, Frank, Cordell, Vilvie, Averette, Lovell, Hattie, Versie, Rosco, and Monedith. From census records at the Jackson County library, Dow may have been the son of Wriley STAFFORD (William Riley or Riley) and the great grandson of Joseph STAFFORD, Sr who came to TN in the early 1800's from NC. Researching the families of Robert BRASWELL (with variations of BRAZEAL, BRAZ(Z)EL(L), BRAS(S)EL(L), etc. and his wife Milly STEVENS of Smith Co., TN. Amelia "Milly" had a brother named Hezekiah STEVENS who removed to Dekalb Co., TN, and a sister Rebecca (who did she marry?). They were children of John STEVENS. Believe John STEVENS may have lived in Jackson Co. Was he same as the John STEVENS who married Polly BAILESS in Sumner Co. ca1808? Robert BRASWELL died in Aug. 1849 and is on the 1850 mortality schedule. His wife and children appear on 1850 census. She dies ca1853 and the family splits up, many are found in Dekalb Co. in 1860. The children are: Marava (m. Lorenzo DUNCAN in Christian Co., KY); John (m. Martha F. BAIRD), Rebecca (m. Bill STARNES), Mary (m. George NEAL), Robert (m. Nancy HARLIN in Izard Co., AR), William, Mathew, and Hezekiah (m. a dau. of Alfred BETTY). Have much more on these families (esp. BAIRD). Wish to correspond with anyone interested in these families.

AMBROSE B.MILLER, born Tennessee around 1830. Married to MARTHA SADLER, born Tennessee around 1843, daughter of William Harrison and Fannie Sadler. Ambrose and Martha were married in Union County, Illinois on February 4, 1869. At some point after 1880, AMBROSE B. I am trying to locate relatives and any information regarding my grandfather Clyde N. Pickler and my grandmother Luna M. Johnson Pickler. Grandfather died in Jackson about 1967. My father, John Lee Pickler (dec) was born in Jackson in 1914 and had a cousin Elko Arnold. Elko's son Jimmy Arnold would probably be in his late 50's and may be residing in the Jackson area. Grandfather Clyde emigrated to Tenn from Carbondale Ill as a child with his father; I believe his father's name was Columbus Pickler, or possibly Calvin. Grandfather Clyde had a second marriage to Annie Lee Ramer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching the parents of Sarah Ellen CARTER, born 19 May, 1849, in Granville, Jackson, Tennessee. I have information that her father was Enoch CARTER and her mother was Mariah VITTATOE. She married Joseph Coatsworth PURSLEY, 15 Feb. 1872, at Granville, Tennessee. Most of their seven children were born at Granville. Joseph C. PURSLEY had several brothers, which remained in Tennessee. Joseph C. PURSLEY and Sarah E. CARTER PURSLEY emigrated sometime after 1885 to La Jara, Colorado. I am interested in learning more about the CARTER, VITTATOE, PURSLEY family in Tennessee, and corresponding with any cousins!

Jesse TAYLOR was said to have been born in Jackson Co,Tenn. Sometimes around 1850's or 1860's. His first wife was Ellen SIDWELL. They had a son, Samuel TAYLOR, who married Lillie Myrtle SMITH. Her parents were John J. SMITH and Sarah J. (MINOR) SMITH. Was Granville MINOR, Sarah's brother? Was William Washington WEBB their uncle? He is said to be their mother's brother. So that would mean that A Webb female, married a male Minor. I know not-the names of Sarah and Granville Minor's parents. Could someone fill me in? William Washington WEBB lived in Metcalfe Co,Ky., at one time. His son was Lester WEBB, who is said to have married an Edwards.

I am trying to locate information on my grandfather, Henry Lee HANCOCK and his ancestors. He lived in the Jackson County area in the early 1900s and was married to Katherine CARVER, born in 1909. After Henry's death in abt. 1935, Katherine married Titus DIXON. I believe Henry's parents' names were William Alford HANCOCK and Ellen GORE. He had a brother, Herman Lester HANCOCK, and two sisters, Emma HANCOCK and Ada HANCOCK. I would like to exchange messages and info with anyone interested in these families.
