Mary Lu Johnson and Bonnie Parker have provided abstracts, NOT, generally, verbatim transcripts, of some of the Jackson County, Tennessee Loose Court Papers microfilm reels. Cases that may have been 50 or more pages were condensed to a few paragraphs. There is no "Everyname Index", but you may use the Edit/Find function in your browser to search each reel. Searching by various spellings is suggested.
If a name was mentioned simply in passing, it may not be included in these abstracts. Almost all the cases were handwritten, some very difficult to read. The cases were filmed by the Plaintiff's name. If your ancestor died without a will and an administrator was appointed by the court, you may never know so much information is available on the family. One estate took 35 years to settle, and proved several generations. Some cases refer to related trials or appeals in other counties which may provide more data.
If you find an abstract relating to your family, you may want to view the original document(s) on the film, as you may well find very interesting material that is not strictly genealogical. Jackson County, Tennessee Loose Court Papers are available on microfilm for purchase from Tennessee State Library & Archives, along with records of several other Tennessee counties. Most, if not all, are also available on rental from LDS Family History Center. Both have websites. They are also available for viewing or purchase at TSLA in Nashville. If you go to the source and order a reel, we don't think you will be disappointed. Enjoy.
