Ripley - Susie E. Summar, 89, of Merrillville, IN, formerly of Ripley, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Towne Center Healthcare Facility in Merrillville. Susie was born July 29, 1916 to Laura and Robert Carroll in Ripley. She lived in Lauderdale County until failing health forced her to move to Gary, IN. She is survived by a sister, Bessie (Algue) Summar of Gary; a sister-in-law, Joyce Carroll of Mayfield, KY; a stepson, Clyde Summar, Jr.; stepdaughters, Maggie (Earl) Burks and Ruby Shelton, 18 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews and extended family. Also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Summar, Sr. in 1976; a sister, Eliza Herron; brothers, Robert, Joseph and Floyd Carroll; stepdaughters, Florence Wandler and Evelyn Rose, and stepson, James Summar. Susie was a homemaker and spent much of her life working on the farm with her family. She loved to garden and spent many hours working with her flowers. Accepting Christ as her Saviour in her early teens, Susie was a faithful member of Woodville Baptist Church for many years. Obit from Enterprise: December 12, 1930, TOM TURNER KILLED – Carl Collins 30, after surrendering to Deputy Sheriff Press Cross was brought to Ripley Tuesday and lodged in jail on a charge of shooting and killing Tom Turner 40, on Island 34 near Fulton, Tennessee on the Mississippi River near the Collins home. Deceased was a son of the late J. A. Turner of Ripley. The remains were laid to rest in Mary’s Chapel Cemetery.

On Wednesday, March 12, the spirit of Bennett Williams was called to it's reward. He was born in McNairy County, but in early manhood moved to Ripley, where he spent most of his life. He leaves a widow, who before their marriage was Miss Jennie Hays. To this union were born twelve children, five of whom survive; Joe B. Williams of Ripley; H. D. Williams of Hurricane Hill; Mrs. J.
