Mrs. Martha Brown Caldwell, after an illness of nearly ten months, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 19, 1926 at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. E. L. Sutton. She was born January 13, 1832 and in 1851 she was married to Nathan Caldwell and to this union seven children were born. Only one survives, Mrs. Jane Garrett, of Memphis. Deceased has living twenty grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. In early life she joined the Presbyterian church and lived a faithful member until God called her home. She said many times she was ready to go; that all was well with the Lord. The funeral was conducted at Grace Wednesday morning by Rev. J. M. Kendall in the presence of a large crowd.

Mrs. Lula Cannon, who resides a few miles north of Ripley, became ill Monday and was brought to the home of her son, Doss Cannon on Brownsville Street. Her illness was pronounced as meningitis by three doctors, and she was taken to the Isolation Hospital in Memphis Monday night.
