MCCOIN/MCKAUGHN/MCKAUGHAN, Jackson County Tennessee: My maiden name is MCCOIN and I have just started researching my family origins. I am descended from a James Wesley MCCOIN and possibly Malise Bell MCCOIN who were from Jackson County. I have no other information to connect this link to an interesting document I just received from my mother. It is a five page typewritten letter dated 16 January, 1978 from Minniebell MCKAUGHAN Perkins to Wallace FREEMONT and it details the origins of this line back to around 245 AD in Pictish Scotland. The document contends a name change took place and MCKAUGHNs are listed in the 1850 Jackson Co. Census, but not MCCOINs. I am transcribing this document to Word and would be happy to share with anyone researching this line. I would also appreciate any assistance in connecting me with my ancestors further back than James Wesley MCCOIN. Thank you so much.

I am researching my great-grandmother, Mariah Jane JOHNSTON. She was born on 28 October 1824 in Wartrace Creek (formerly Wilsonville), Jackson County, Tennessee. Her father was Oliver Campbell JOHNSTON, her mother Hannah HALL BUCKLEY. I need any and all information as to her parents' birthplaces and dates, their parents' names, birthdates, any sibs, etc. My major emphasis is to establish a direct, solid link to the Clan Johnstone in Scotland. I have good information as to the Scottish end, but am missing some important points in the middle. Oliver's father's name was reportedly James JOHNSTON, his mother Jane NFI. James' father was Samuel JOHNSTON of New Jersey, wife unknown. Samuel was allegedly an officer in the Revolutionary War - I found two from different counties in New Jersey. If anyone can help fill in the spaces, I will be deeply grateful.

I am researching Holland's from Marion County, Tennessee and Jackson County, Alabama. Squire Holland married Roda Ridge. There children were: William Holland who married Martha Harris
Preston Holland
Elizabeth Jane Holland who married Reuben Brown
Biddy Holland
Margaret Holland who married Meredith Pickett
Francis M. Holland who married Catherine Thorp, Caroline Coralle, and Minerva Murrand
George Washington Holland who married Salina McFarland and Ellen Starling
Thomas J. Holland who married Nancy Eakes and Margaret Beason

Squire and his wife can be found in the 1840 Jackson County, Alabama census. I have not been able to determine where Squire was born. One record I have says he was born U.S. Another record (census) says he was born Ohio. They later went to Marion County, Tennessee. At least 4 of the brothers left TN and went to Dent County, MO.2 stayed there, 1 went to Arkansas and the other went back to Tennessee or Alabama. Willing to share any information that I have. Can someone tell me if most of the BROWN families around Jackson Co. seem to be related? I'm new to this and I'm not having much luck. I am trying to find the family of my g grandfather William T. BROWN. His death record gives his birth date as 1853 but some census records give his birth year as 1847. The census records indicate that both parents were born in TN. He married Byancy BYERS around 1877 and they are on the 1880 census in Jackson Co. I would love to hear from someone who is researching the BROWN name in Jackson Co. I have not been able to search the 1860 census yet, Does anyone have any BROWN family on that census with a child named William of the right age? Any advice or info would be much appreciated!

To whom it may concern: I am seeking the records of Beatrice Alamay HUNT and Robert Lee POTEET. I am interested in Birth, Death, and Marriage Records for my personal records. She is my great great grandmother. However, I do not have a great deal of information at this time. This is what I do know: Beatrice was born in Livingston. She married Robert Lee POTEET, who was born in Whitleyville, TN. They had at least 3 children. Their third child, my great grandmother, Willie May POTEET was born in Livingston, TN, Feb. 27, 1912. On 7-29-41, R.R Peiffer (Director of Vital Statistics) and W.C. Williams (Commissioner) signed a certified copy of Willie's birth certificate that bore the certified copy number 19312. If there is any way to find any of her vital records based on this information, I would appreciate any assistance available. Thank you for your time.

Looking for my ggg grandmother Elizabeth. We are unsure of her maiden name spelling. Father may have been William OR Robert BRYANT. Mother may have been a CALHOUN. Elizabeth was born around 1816, and married Wilson Williamson Marlow around 1834-36. They had four children: Achsa (1836), James Robert (1838), Pleasant (1841) and Bethel (1843). She died young around the age of 25-27 shorthly after the birth of her last child. I am a descendent of Bethel. Bethel is a strange name. I once saw a William Bethel MARLOW and wondered if my gg grandfather was named after a this person. We believe that she and Wilson lived in Tennesse when first married and then moved to St. Claire Missouri. She died somewhere in Missouri, near St. Claire I would think. Does anyone have information on this family. I would love to hear from you. I have some information to share. Thank you, Vicki Walberg Vacaville, CA.

I am searching for the parents and family of John (Demie) ANDERSON, b. abt 1854 in Granville, Jackson, TN. He married Nancy Jane BURGESS, b. 1859 in Jackson Co. TN. There is a marriage license dated 13 March 1877 for a J. F. ANDERSON and Nannie BURGESS. Demie may be a nickname for John and Nannie was one of Nancy Jane's nicknames. Nancy Jane is the daughter of Joseph (Joe) BURGESS and Mary Elizabeth VETETO. Demie died in 1880. Family lore has it that he was the son of a wealthy family that raised thoroughbred horses in Jackson Co. TN and that he was disinherited for marrying Nancy Jane BURGESS. After John/Demie's death, Nancy Jane married John CANNON, and after his death, married his brother, Joe CANNON.

I am trying to locate information on Susan REYNOLDS, who married Thomas Washington Smith. She was born near Belleforb, Jackson Alabama, Sept 2, 1813. Her father Edward REYNOLDS born about 1788 in GIbson County TN, her mother Jane READY or possibly REEDY, born about 1790 in AL or TN. I show the father of Edward was Thomas REYNOLDS. The mother of Jane READY was possibly Susan. I believe Susan REYNOLDS was Cherokee, an old picture shows her wearing indian necklace, and old family story says one of the wives of SMITH was native american. She married a mormon and they went to Iowa then to Utah with the pioneers in 1846.

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone ! My name is Sandra Fischer and I am seeking any info on my G-grandfather, Thomas Howard. On the 1880 Boone Co. AR. index page, he states he was born in TN. 24 years previously. I was lucky enough to find a lady that sent me a listing for 1860 Jackson Co. TN. census index showing a young boy of 5 years of age named Thomas with parents Thomas and Nancy Howard. I just can't be absolutely sure it is the same family I need. Would anyone know of some written material telling the history of early residents of Jackson Co.? My GG-grandfather is suppossed to have come over from Clare Co. Ireland when he was 14 years of age. If anyone has any ideas as to where I could go from here, I sure would appreciate hearing from them. Thanks very much, Sandy in AZ.
