WEBB, SMITH

I am researching John WEBB (b. abt 1825 in Ireland? or TN?) and Louvica SMITH (b. abt 1829 in Jackson Co, Tn?) m. abt. 1839 or 1840. Their 1st child was born in 1840. They had 12 children the last of which was b. 1858. The family is found in the 1850 census for Smith Co but I believe that Smith was formed from Jackson Co. Later the whole family shows up in Iron Co, Mo in 1870 census, minus John Webb. What happened to him?Did he die or did he go back to Ireland? any info appreciated.

CANTRELL, FRY, FRYE

Hello, I am Dr. Richard Cantrell and I was raised in Albany, Georgia. I was born in 1954 and my father was James Howard Cantrell. He was born in March 1915 or 1916, probably in Tennessee, his father was Marion CANTRELL. He supposedly was married to a Cherokee Indian, last name FRYE or FRY. As both grandparents passed on prior to my birth and my father spoke little of them except of his Indian heritage, I have little to go on. I know that my Grandparents were married in Tennessee probably at the turn of the century give or take ten years but I don't know the county or anything like that and I know that the Cantrell's came to Tennessee from Georgia or South Carolina. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

HARLEY,STAFFORD,SWEARENGIN

I am looking for information on the HARLEY, STAFFORD and SWEARENGIN families in Jackson, Overton, and Putnam Counties. These families apparently came from North Carolina to Tennessee at an early date and there were many marriages between them. I am especially interested in the ancestors of Robert and Joseph SWEARENGIN who were enumerated with Hiram and Elizabeth STAFFORD HARLEY (of Jackson County, Tn.) on the 1860 census in Webster County, Missouri. These children were born in about 1851/52 and 1856/57 respectively, Robert listed as born in Tennessee and Joseph listed as born in Missouri. On Joseph's death certificate his parents are listed as John E. SWEARENGIN and his mother as_______ HARLEY. It is known that Elizabeth HARLEY, daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth STAFFORD HARLEY married Hugh SWEARENGIN and that they moved to Greene, then to Webster County, Missouri sometime before the 1860!! census was taken.

STAFFORD, SMALLWOOD, RUSH, SPURLOCK, BIGGS

Looking for information on the ancestry and decendents of Dow STAFFORD, b. 1840(?). Dow was married to Martha STAFFORD and had several children, including my g grandfather, William STAFFORD. William married Celina STAFFORD and they had several children: Van, Frank, Cordell, Vilvie, Averette, Lovell, Hattie, Versie, Rosco, and Monedith. From census records at the Jackson County library, Dow may have been the son of Wriley STAFFORD (William Riley or Riley) and the great grandson of Joseph STAFFORD, Sr who came to TN in the early 1800's from NC. According to my records, this line of STAFFORD's liked to marry other STAFFORD's so the above female entries are not mistakes. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Researching the families of Robert BRASWELL (with variations of BRAZEAL, BRAZ(Z)EL(L), BRAS(S)EL(L), etc. and his wife Milly STEVENS of Smith Co., TN. Amelia "Milly" had a brother named Hezekiah STEVENS who removed to Dekalb Co., TN, and a sister Rebecca (who did she marry?). They were children of John STEVENS. Believe John STEVENS may have lived in Jackson Co. Was he same as the John STEVENS who married Polly BAILESS in Sumner Co. ca1808? Robert BRASWELL died in Aug. 1849 and is on the 1850 mortality schedule. His wife and children appear on 1850 census. She dies ca1853 and the family splits up, many are found in Dekalb Co. in 1860. The children are: Marava (m. Lorenzo DUNCAN in Christian Co., KY); John (m. Martha F. BAIRD), Rebecca (m. Bill STARNES), Mary (m. George NEAL), Robert (m. Nancy HARLIN in Izard Co., AR), William, Mathew, and Hezekiah (m. a dau. of Alfred BETTY). Have much more on these families (esp. BAIRD). Wish to correspond with anyone interested in these families.

JACKSON, BILLINGSLEY, PIPPIN, JULIAN

My mother's great-grandfathers on both the maternal and paternal sides were named JACKSON from Jackson County. One was Silas JACKSON dob around 1830 (It showed on the 1880 Census that both his parents were born in NC but we do not know their names) who married Susanna BILLINGSLEY dob around 1822. Her mother's father was Joseph JACKSON dob around 1819 (IT showed on the 1880 Census that both his parents were also born in NC) married Martha _____? dob around 1826. America JACKSON, daughter of Silas JACKSON, married James K. PIPPIN and Tennessee JACKSON, daughter of Joseph JACKSON, married?-had a child, my grandmother, named Olive Eve JULIAN. Tennessee later married a Rains JACKSON. With so many JACKSONS involved-would anyone know if Silas and Joseph JACKSON were brothers? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I know nothing about the BILLINGSLEYS except for the name Susanna and would love to connect with that line.

HARLEY, BYERS, EAKLES

Hello, I am seaching for info on Harvey Harley b 4-14-1885 in Gainesville, MO but lived in Jackson also and for the most part I think) he married Dona Ada Eakles. His father was told to me to be Aner Brantley Harley and Odelia Jane Byers, I have since found that his parents might have been Absolom Harley and Ardelia Jane Byers, but then I have found that Absolom and Ardelia might just be his grandparents who adoted him from there daughters first marriage. My family doesn't remember Harvey as talking about being adopted and the children of Absolom and Ardelia match what I was told was Harveys brothers and sisters. Can anyone help out there!!!!! I am going bald from pulling my hair out...hehe. Thanks in advance!!!!!

WEBB-MINOR -SMITH-TAYLOR-SIDWELL-MARSHALL-HISER

Jesse TAYLOR was said to have been born in Jackson Co,Tenn. Sometimes around 1850's or 1860's. His first wife was Ellen SIDWELL. They had a son, Samuel TAYLOR, who married Lillie Myrtle SMITH. Her parents were John J. SMITH and Sarah J. (MINOR) SMITH. Was Granville MINOR, Sarah's brother? Was William Washington WEBB their uncle? He is said to be their mother's brother. So that would mean that A Webb female, married a male Minor. I know not-the names of Sarah and Granville Minor's parents. Could someone fill me in? William Washington WEBB lived in Metcalfe Co,Ky., at one time. His son was Lester WEBB, who is said to have married an Edwards.
