1872

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lords day in July, 1872. After preaching by Elder E. E. Colson the church proceeded to Business (sic). John H. Morgan informed the church that Br. William Free wanted a letter. On motion Br. John H. Morgan was requested to see Br. Free and request to attend our next church meeting and give his reason for wanting a letter. Then agreed we go into an election for deacons for our next meeting then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lords day in August, 1872. After preaching by Elder S. H. Lancaster the church proceeded to business. Taken up the reference Br. John H. Morgan stated that he had seen Br. William Free and conversed with him and Br. Free stated the reason he wanted a letter was that he desired to devote his entire time to the ministry and the Cumberland Association would not support him and said he would meet us at our next church meeting. As the Br. failed to meet with the church, the case was laid over until the next church meeting then appointed Br. John to notify him to attend the next church meeting. Then released Elder E. E. Colson from the pastorial chair of the church then went into an election for pastor. On ballot Br. S. H. Lancaster was duly elected. The being protracted. (sic)

Tuesday night the door of the church being open for the reception of members came forward Parazade Wallace and joined by experience and Joseph Vick by letter.

Thursday came forward Mary Morgan, Mary Wallace and Lilly Wallace and joined by experience.

Friday night came forward Prelina Wallace, Martha Rose and Calista Newberry and joined by experience and David Lancaster by recommendation. Then went into election for deacon. On ballot Br. John H. Morgan was elected and set apart then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lord's day in September, 1872. After preaching by elder S. H. Lancaster the church proceeded to business. Taken up the references and laid the case of Br. William Free until the next church meeting. Then taken under consideration the names of Henry Jackson and Aretta Jackson and dismissed them from us for contempt to the church for joining the Methodist without a letter from us. Then agreed that Martin Hutchinson act as our clerk then went into an election for delegates. On ballot Br. M. D. Hutchinson, W. G. Morgan and J. H. Morgan was appointed then dismissed to meet Sunday at the waters to attend to the ordinance of baptism.

Met at the waters and gave an invitation for the reception of members. Came forward Nancy Ross and joined by experience of grace and then came forward Nancy Ross, Mary Morgan and Calista Page (Newberry) and was baptised. Then at night the door of the church was opened for the reception of members. Came forward Price Thomas and joined by experience then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lord's day in October, 1872. After preaching by Elder S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. The letter was called for and read and received. Then taken under consideration the names of Br. William Free, A. Taylor and Elizabeth Hinson and dismissed from us for contempt for joining a sister church without a letter from us. William Free and A. Taylor dismissed them from us for contempt to the church for joining the methodist (sic) without a letter from.(sic) Then appointed a committee consisting of Br. W. G. Morgan and M. D. Hutchinson to visit Brother Josiah Wallace and Sister Polly Wallace for non attendance then dismissed in order. (*note: A. Met at the waters edge Sunday morning at 10:00 to attend to the ordinance of baptism then came forward Price Thomas and Prelina Wallace and was baptised by elder S. H. Lancaster.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lord's day in November, 1872. After preaching by Elder S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. The committee came forth with their report. They said Josiah Wallace and Sister Polly Wallace said they still wanted to remain in the church that they loved the church. The committee was discharged. Sister........?........through Br. J. Morgan. The church granted it to him. Br. E. E. Colison requested a letter from the church. The church granted him the letter then dismissed in order.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in Dec., 1872. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Permission for members was given. Br. S. H. Lancaster came forth and joined by letter being a minister of the gospel then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church before the second Sunday in June in 1873. Aftre preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Br. Robert Jackson said that ..........?..........request him to call for a letter for him. On motion it was granted. Br. S. H. Lancaster gave in a report against Henry Legate for unchristian conduct. On motion his name was erased from the church book then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in August 1873. After prayer by Br. John Morgan the church proceeded to business. Then went into an election for pastor. On balloting, Br. S. H. Lancaster was re-elected for the next year. Br. John Morgan said the report was that Br. Jo Free was acting as an unchristian man. Br. Josiah Wallace and Br. John Hawkins was appoined to see him. Br. Josiah Vick was appointed to see Mandy Hargis where she wanted to remain a member of the church any longer or not. Sister Martha Ross requested her name be erased from the church book through Br. Joe Vick. On motion her name was erased from the church book. Then went into election for delegates to the association. On balloting Br. Josiah Wallace and W. G. Morgan and J. H. Morgan was elected then dismissed.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in October, 1873. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. The letter was read and received. Mandy Hargis requested her name be erased from the church book and it was granted her. The rest of the business was laid over until the next church day then dismissed in peace.

1874

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lord's day in January 1874. After preaching by S. H. Lancaster the church proceeded to business. Through a request by Br. S. H. Lancaster the church licensed Br. Emlis Cherry to pray to exorate to preaching as his mind led him, then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lord's day in August 1874. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Then the case between Br. Joe Karnell and Br. Joe Vick being brought up. According to what Br. J. H. Morgan and John Hawkins stated what the parties had said, the church found Br. Joe Vick the guilty one and erased his name. Sister Tennessee Taylor came forward and said that Sister Salley E. Wallace had reported that she had been swearing. She (Tennessee Taylor) made her acknowledgement to the church requesting the church erase her name from the church book. The church received her acknowledgement believing she had told the truth that she had not been swearing. On talking it over, she said her name might stay on the church book until the next church day and appointed a committee to see Sister Salley E. Wallace consisting of Robert Jackson to see if there could be a reconsiliation (sic) brought about between the two. If not, her name should be erased from the church book at her request. Then going into election to our next association for delegates to the association. On ballot Br. J. H. Morgan, G. W. Jackson and M. D. Hutchinson were elected. Then dismissed in peace. Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lord's day in Sep. 1874. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church porceeded (sic) to business. The committee consisting of Br. Robert Jackson stated that Sister Sally E. Wallace said that if she had hurt Sister Taylor's feelings she was sorry for it and was willing to acknowledge.

The meeting protracted on Monday came forward Jo Taylor, Martha Taylor, Nathan Wallace, Larena Wallace and Dewit Morgan and joined by recommendation............?.............and joined by experience and baptism...............?...............Isabella Williams, John Fuller, Ellia..............?................

Thursday came forward Eliza Morgan and joined by experience and baptism.

Friday came forward Dudly Williams, Isabella Willilms (sic), John Fuller, Ellis Fuller, Lucinda Thomas and joined by recommendation. Alabama Newberry joined by experience and baptism through Br. S. H. Lancaster. Br. Dewit ask for permit to pray to exort and to take text to preach from. This done in conference on the 18th day of September on Friday. Then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in Nov. 1874. After preaching the church proceeded to business. Then went into election for pastor. On balloting Br. S. H. Lancaster was elected for the ensuing year. Br. John Morgan stated that he had disposed of the old lumber that belonged to the old meeting house. Riley Wallace had a part of it for hauling lumber to the new one and M. Jacobs had got the rest for window lights. Br. John Hawkins is appointed to sell the old meeting house logs and to put the means into the treasure. Br. John Fuller elected steward for the ensuing year. John Morgan gets up and reads the government and constitution of the Free Will Baptist Churches for the church to receive it. Br. M. D. Hutchinson stated that he was opposed to it and it was laid on the table for the next church day. Then appointed a committee to see Sister Mary Manning to see whether she was going to baptised (sic) or not (committee) consisting of BR. John Hawkins and M. D. Hutchinson then dismissed in peace.

1875

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in March, 1875. After prayer meeting held by Br. S. H. Lancaster the church then proceeded to business. The report being called for and read the government and constitution of the church on motion laid over for the next church meeting. Br. John Hawkins stated he had sold the old meeting house logs to ....?.... Woodson for $5.00. Te church then released him of that. Br. S. H. Lancaster stated that the church owed him $7.25 for the stove. The church gave him the $5.00 that was coming from Woodson. Br. John Hawkins stated that Mary Manning had joined the Methodist. The church then ordered her name to be erased from the church book for treating the church with contempt. The church appointed a committee to transact business coming before the church and this shall be done secretly so that the world shall not know what the church does. This committee consist of five brothers; Dudley Williams, John Fuller, M. D. Hutchinson, John Morgan and Nathan Wallace. The church has ordered three sacrement meetings this year, May - September - December then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in April, 1875. After prayer meeting by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. On government and constitution was handed over to the committee to act upon as they see proper and this committee to report to the church every three months the standing the church is in. The first report is on Saturday before the second Sunday in June then dismissed in peace.

Br. Dewit Morgan laid in a charge before the church for making and telling he had been whipping his wife. This charge was laid against Sister Mary Morgan.

Robert Jackson, being a member in good standing in Liberty church of Free Will Baptist, died on the 5th day of May, 1875.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in May, 1875. Br. Dewit Morgan had laid in a charge before the committee against Sister Mary M. Morgan for making and telling that he had been whipping his wife. They both and the committee met at Br. M. D. Hutchinson's. She acknowledged to him and the committee that she told it, but she heard it and that she was sorry that she had told and insisted on him to drop it, but he would not hear to her. The committee agreeded (sic) to meet at Dudley Williams on Saturday evening week at 3 o'clock. The committee could not agree there. They agreed to met (sic) at the meeting on Saturday before the Lord's day in June 1875 at 9 o'clock. Before preaching, the committee found no proof against her and he would not receive her acknowledgements. The committee could not agree so they laid it before the church for trial on Saturday before the second Lord's day in July 1875.

Dewit Morgan came forward and received Sister Mary M. Morgan acknowledgements. The church received them both in full fellowship. The church adopted the government and constitution and appointed a committee consisting of Brothers S. H. Lancaster, J. H. Morgan and Joseph Free then dismissed in peace.

Met on Saturday before the second Lord's day in September, 1875. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Through request of Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church granted sister Elizabeth Clinard a letter of recommendation. Then went into an election for delegates to the association. On balloting, Brothers J. H. Morgan, John Fuller and M. D. Hutchinson was elected then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty church on Saturday before the second Lords Day in October 1875. After preaching by Br. H. C. Pace, the church proceeded to business. The door of the church being open Br. H. C. Pace came forward and joined the church by recommendation. The church then granted him license to preach then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lord's day in Nov., 1875. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. On balloting Br. S. H. Lancaster was elected our pastor for the ensuing year. Br. John Fuller resigned the office of steward. Br. Joseph Free was elected steward for the ensuing year then dismissed in peace.

1876

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords Day in Jan., 1876. After preaching by Br. H. C. Pace, the church proceeded to business. Br. M. D. Hutchinson requested the committee consisting of Brothers S. H. Lancaster, J. H. Morgan and Joseph Free that was appointed last July to write the government and constitution for the church, to read it over. They stated they had not wrote it out but give them a month longer and they would. The church then appoints a committee consisting of Br. John Fuller and Joseph Free to see Br. Emlis Cherry to see where he was a going to preach or not. If not, the church would kill his license then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lord's day in Feb., 1876. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster the church proceeded to business. Report of the committee was called for by the church. Br. S. H. Lancaster stated that they had consulted with each other and agreed to take the new testament for the government of the church. On motion, the church received it. Br. J. Fuller stated that they had seen Br. Emlis Cherry. He said he had not decided which he would yet and the church could do as they pleased. The church thought that ...............?..............been decided before he called for license and has held them two years and had not decided yet. The church, on motion, killed his license and appointed Br. S. H. Lancaster to write an order for the license and give it to Br. M. D. Hutchinson to get them. The church ordered four sacramented meetings a year. The first on the Lords day in April 1876 then dismissed in peace.

James Taylor for horse swapping on the sabbath in time of preaching. The church appoints a committee consisting of Br. J. H. Morgan and Dudley Willilms (sic) to see the brother. Br. S. H. Lancaster also stated he had heard that Br. Price Thomas had been swearing. The church appoints a committee consisting of Br. J. H. Morgan and John Hawkins to see the brother then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in July, 1876. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Reference being called for and read, taken up the case of Br. Price Thomas. The committee gave their report. Br. John Hawkins stated that he had seen the brother and talked with him and the brother stated that he had not swearing (sic) and if he had been swearing and if he had not been provoked, he would not have done it. He was sorry that he had.......and he requested the church to erace (sic) his name from the church book for he was not fitting to be in the church. The motion was made and second to grant the brother his request. Br. W. G. Morgan objected his name being eraced (sic) from the church book at his request. The Brother's feelings was hurt at him for some cause and the brother must give that cause before he could grant him his request. As for his own part he is not against him. The church points (sic) a committee consisting of J. H. Morgan and M. D. Hutchinson to get the two brothers together with friends between them both. The church then taken up the case of Br. James Taylor. The committee states that they had not seen him. It was laid over till next meeting then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in August, 1876. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Reference being called for and read, the case of Br. James Taylor was taken up and laid over till next meeting for the report of the committee. Then the case of Br. Price Thomas was taken up and laid over till next meeting for the report of the committee. Then went into an election for delegates to the association to be held with Heads Church, Robertson County, Tennessee. On balloting Br. W. G. Morgan, James McCoy and Binkley Jackson were elected.

The meeting being protracted on Wednesday night, the door of the church being open. Invitaiton was given for the reception of members. Came forward John Page and J. McCoy and joined by experience and baptism.

On Thursday night came forward G. M. Wall, and S. M. Vick and joined by recommendation and F. N. McCoy joined by experience and baptism.

On Friday night came forward M. H. Morgan, and James McCoy and joined by recommendation. Came forward B. F. Taylor, J. E. Taylor, R. M. Morgan, Samuel Morgan, (G or J). R. McCoy, Mary Morgan, Rebecca Wallace, Fanny Williams, Fanny Wall and Fred Westerman and they joined by experience and baptism then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in Sep., 1876. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Reference being called for and read, taken up the case of Br. James Taylor. The committee stated that the brother request his name erased from the church book. The church dismissed him by the charge that was against him. Then taken up the case of Br. Price Thomas and dismissed the case.

The meeting being protracted till Thursday night, the door of the church being open, invitation was given for reception of members. Came forward James Taylor and Sylvestor Taylor and joined by recommendation, Betty Heit and Nancy McCoy by recommendation and J. D. Morgan by experience and baptism. Then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lords day in October, 1876. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church went into conference. The door of the church being open for the reception of members. Came forward W. C. Williams, Orlander M. Morgan, Mary Dennis and Joseph Taylor and joined by experience and baptism. Then appointed a committee of Br. Josiah Wallace and G. W. Wall to see Br. Sam Vick for the charge of drunkness and to bring their report in by the next church day, then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in November 1876. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Br. S. H. Lancaster pastorial year was about out. The church went into electoin. On balloting Br. S. H. Lancaster was elected for the year 1877. Then went into election for two stewards and a sexton. On balloting Br. John Page was elected sexton and Br. W. G. Morgan and M. D. Hutchinson was elected the two stewards. Then called for reference to be read. Then taken up the case of Br. S. M. Vick. On motion it was tabled for the next church date. The church granted Br. M. D. Hutchinson the privilege of changing the name and set them anywhere in the book he saw proper. The church ordered the rule of the qurom (sic) to be written down in the church book then ordered the minutes of every meeting to be read, then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on Saturday before the second Lords day in December 1876. After praise and prayer by S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Reference being called for and read, taken up the case of Br. Sam Vick. On the proof and the caharge, the church excluded him from the church. Br. George McCoy requested his name be erased from the church book. Br. J. H. Morgan objected to it. Said the brother must give the cause why he wanted his name erased from the church book. The church appointed a committee consisting of Br. J. H. Morgan and John Hawkins to see the brother and name the cause, then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lord's day in January 1877. After praise and prayer by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Reference being called for and read, taken up the case of Br. George McCoy. The committee stated that he said because he wanted his name erased from the church book was he wasn't (sic) satisfied with the church. Br. John Morgan stated that reports said he had being (sic) playing cards and swearing. Br. John Page stated that he knew it to be the fact. On motion the church excluded him from the church. The church charged Br. Marvin McCoy for beign drunk and dancing & Br. J. E. McCoy and Sister Nancy McCoy for dancing. The church appointed a committee consisting of Br. John Morgan and John Page to see them and bring in their report by the next church date, then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lords day in April, 1877. After praise and prayer by S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. Reference being called for and read, taken up the case of Br. Marvin McCoy, J. E. McCoy and Nancy McCoy, approved the report of the committee and the charge, the church excluded them from the church, then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lords day in May, 1877. After praise and prayer by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. The minutes of the last meeting were called for and read. Then Br. W. G. Morgan resigned the office of stewardship and Br. G. M. Wall was appointed in his place. Br. G. M. Wall charged Br. Bithel Taylor for swearing. The church appointed Br. G. M. Wall to see him and bring in the report by the next church day. Br. J.... Taylor requested the church erase his name from the church book for he was not fitted to belong there for he had been swearing. The church excluded him at his request. The church appointed Br. G. M. Wall to see Br. Ben Taylor upon the report of swearing and if he were not quilty to clear himself of it. If not, the church would deal with him then dismissed in peace.

Reference being called for and read, then taken up the case of Br. Ethel (sic) Taylor. Upon report of the committee and the charge, the church excluded him. The committee was then discharged then dismissed in peace.

Came forward was Sister Nancy Ralls, Jane Cherry, Br. J. M. Cherry and joined by recommendation. Then appointed a committee, upon worship, consisting of Br. J. H. Morgan, J. A. Fuller, E. E. Cherry, N. J. D. Wallace, A. B. Jackson and M. H. Morgan. Then went into election for delegates. On balloting Br. J. H. Morgan, Josiah Wallace, N. J. D. Wallace and M. D. Hutchinson was elected and Br J. A. Fuller and E. E. Cherry was elected Alternates. Upon report of Br. S. H. Lancaster and John Hawkins, the church excluded Sister Mary Morgan for dancing.

The meeting being protracted on Wednesday came forward Br. Henry Newberry and joined by experience and baptism. Br. George W. Wallace and Sister Martha Wallace and joined by letter.

Saturday night came forward Br. Joshua Page, James Hawkins, Rubin Wallace and C. T. Wallis and Ruth Western, then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church on the second Sunday in September, 1877. After preaching by Br. Lancaster, then was the invitation given for members. Came forward Br. John Shemwell and joined by experience and baptism. The church seeing it needful to call the meeting on Saturday before the second Lords day in September, 1877 for the prupose of transacting business then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the fourth Lords day in September, 1877. After prayer by Br. S. H. Lancaster, the invitation given for members. Came forward Br. H. I. Cherry and joined by recommendation, Br. J. E. McCoy and joined by recommendation, Br. William Page and Sister Luella Cherry and joined by experience and baptism. Sister Polly Kelly and joined by recommendation. The church called Br. J. H. Morgan as their moderator protem. Br. J. H. Morgan stated what Br. H. C. Pace had told him. Br. S. H. Lancaster stated to the church what he had to say. The church perceived that the ........was in Br. H. C. Pace. The church therefore appointed a committee to notify him of the charge the church held against him and to report to the next church day. Committee consisted of J. H. Morgan, H. I. Cherry and G. W. Wallace. The church granted Br. S. H. Lancaster the power to extend an arm from Liberty to Friendship, then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lords day in October in 1877. After preaching by Br. S. H. Lancaster, conference was called and the church proceeded to business. The reference read and committee discharged. Then taken under consideration the case of Br. H. C. Pace. The brother being present after facts being stated, the church decided the charge held against Br. Lancaster was found upon imagination of his own. After reconsilation (sic) being made between the brothers, Br. H. C. Pace gave satisfaction to the church then dismissed in order.

On balloting Br. S. H. Lancaster was elected for the year 1878. Then went into election for steward and sexton and treasure (sic). On balloting Br. C. T. Wallace elected steward for 1878. Br. John Page was elected sexton for 1878 and Br. W. G. Morgan was elected treasure (sic) for 1878. Br. Sam Morgan and Robert Morgan requested the church to erase their name form the church book for they were not fitting to belong to the church. The church excluded them at their request then dismissed in peace.

Met at Liberty Church Saturday before the second Lord's day in December, 1877. After praise and prayer by Br. Lancaster, the church proceeded to business. The door of the church being open, invitation was given for the reception of members. Came forward Br. M. Wallace and joined by recommendation. Request the church grant him license to preach. The church granted the brother the license to take and preach, to exort, to sing and to pray as his mind directs him. Then taken up the case of Br. C. T. Wallace for dancing. Then taken up the case of Br. Ben Taylor. The church excluded him for dancing. The church elected Brother James Hawkins steward for the year 1878. The church put an order that no member shall hold an office in the church until he has been an member of the church twelve months. Then dismissed in peace.
