The Order For The Files
Tobias Williams was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia in 1746. He married Jemima Clardy April 1, 1775.
He Lived in Caswell County, North Carolina when drafted into the North Carolina militia. He served as a
private in the Army of the Revolution. He then moved to Person County, North Carolina after the war and
on to Smith County, TN where he lived on Defeated Creek until his death on April 15, 1834.

Philip Day of Dixon's Creek, TN gave testimony that Tobias did serve in the North Carolina militia.

Miles West, clergyman of Smith Co., TN and Elam Russell (Son-in-law of Tobias) of Smith Co., TN also gave
testimony on behalf of Tobias Williams. Tobias and Jemima Clardy Williams were the parents of eleven
children, William Williams born October 9 or 19, 1775 as stated in pension records being the eldest.
