State Of Tennessee
Smith County
On 25 August 1832
personally appeared before me David Hogg, an acting
Justice of Peace for the State and County above
mentioned Tobias Williams a resident Of Defeated Creek
in the afore said state and county; aged Eighty Six
years next October, who being first duly sworn
according to law, doth on his oath make the
following declaration in order to obtain the
benefit of the Act Of Congress passed June 7th, 1832.
That he entered the service of the United States by draft
of North Carolina in October 1778.
In the Malitia under the following named Officers
Capt. William White, Luiet. Lawson, Ensign
Wm. Hanie, Rendezvoused at Hills Borough in
the State of North Carolina, marched from
thence to Charles Town South Carolina, from
thence to Puris Burge (Purrysburg), from thence to the two
Sisters on Savana River,
from thence to Briar Creek near Ash's depot
and then marched back into the State of
North Carolina to Hills Borough and there
mustered out of the service. In the month of May 1779.
I was in no battle or engagement during (this) time.
Qus. Where and in what year were you born?
Ansr. I was born in Virginia Chesterfield County, 1746.
Qus. Have you any record of your age?
Ansr. No, not by me, my register was kept by my
parents and I only have it from the information
that they gave me.
Qus. Where were you a living when called into service?
Ansr. In the State of North Carolina, Caswell, County.
Qus. Where have you been living since the
Revolutionary War and where do you now live?
Ansr. I continued to live in Caswell County
North Carolina for some few years after the
war then emigrated to (Person) County the
same state ---turn over---
