Widow Rosannah m next Anderson CLAXTON in Sep 1828 in Bedford Co, TN. He d Sep 1849 in Pulaski Co, AR, and she applied on 16 Nov 1853 in Sebastian Co, AR, was residing at the time with her son, Edwin M. Tatum. A Stephen CANTRELL of Jefferson Co, AR declared he had known Howell Tatum since 1804 and afterward "went to live with" the firm of Dederick and Tatum in Nashville (of which firm Howell Tatum was a member in 1809). Stephen CANTRELL stated he had married Howell's wife's sister (her name not given). (Rev War No. R2027) On 1 Sep 1775, Absolom TATUM was commissioned a Lieutenant, and Howell TATUM an ensign in the 1st Regiment North Carolina Line (Colonial Records of North Carolina, Vol. X, 1775-1776, p. 186)

He was in both battles of Trenton and the battle of Germantown. He was discharged February 13, 1778, at Valley Forge. He served later in Virginia Militia under LaFayette and was in the Siege of Yorktown. He married in October, 1778, Elizabeth -----. He died December 7, 1832, in Cannon County, Tennessee. Elizabeth TURNLEY survived him and drew pension until June 23, 1850 when she died in Cannon County, Tennessee. Their children were: Edmund, born 1779; Martha, born 1782; Mary, born 1783; Catherine, born 1785; John, born 1787; Nancy, born 1789; Powell, born 1791; Ellet, born 1793, and Temple, born 1795.
