Josiah Brandon Born 26 Jun 1761, was a resident of Burke Co, NC during the Rev. Served as a Whig (1) under Capt. Samuel Davidson of Burke County NC in 1776-7, (2) three months as a Ranger under Capt. Cunningham and fought Indians across the Blue Ridge in the fall of 1779, (3) winter of 1779 he joined Capt. BOYKIN's company of Light Horse and pursued the British under Capt. Cunningham in South Carolina until he was driven into the British garrison at 96; (4) In March of 1780 joined Maj. MCDOWELL's Corps from Burke County and served 30 days in Indian Territory. He also fought as a Tory at King's Mountain on 7 Oct 1780 with his father, a former British Officer (pre-Revolution), who was killed there. Then served as a Whig again (5) in the fall of 1780 when the Indians attacked the settlement near Old Fort and "John Davidson and his family were butchered in the most brutal and savage manner;" then (6) joined Capt. Sandford Berry Private, South Carolina Line, $40.00 Annual Allowance $100.00 Amount Received September 27 1833 Pension Started Age 71 (1835 TN Pension Roll) Applied for pension in Franklin in 1832 at age 70, declared he was born in Albemarle County, Virginia, but removed to Laurens District, South Carolina as an infant, enlisted in Sep 1781 in Laurens and served under Capt. KERR and Col. McCOY. Also also accompanied a detachment under Gen. Twiggs to a place called Indian's Old Fields. On 16 Nov 1836, Winchester, Franklin Co, TN, Micah TAUL requested payment be resumed for Sanford BERRY who had not received payment since Sep 1835, and can now be reached at Manchester in newly formed Coffee County. David Johnson Or Johnston (Pension S13587) served in the NC Line, Mecklenburg County Militia and lost his left arm in the battle of Tiger River in SC in 1780. Received a disability pension from 4 Mar 1789 at which time he lived in Ashe Co [then Wilkes Co], NC, and in May 1829 was living at Franklin TN. See Tenn. Johnsons of The Revolution
