about 10 years old. His father, Levi Cantrell, and his grandfather, Joseph West, had taken
opposite sides in the Civil War, and he was not permitted to visit him. One day at a blacksmith
shop, an old man began talking to him. He asked the blacksmith, "Who is that man?" The
blacksmith told him, "He is your grandfather, Joseph West." (See Brode
