ANDERSON, JOHNSON BEAUREGURD KINGSPORT -- Johnson Beauregurd Anderson died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Greystone Health Care Center. He was born in Blountville, a son of the late John Kern and Ruby Frances Droke Anderson. He was the widower of Pauline Elizabeth Pauley and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. In 1979, he retired as city court clerk of Kingsport after 30 years of service and was a member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Frances "Cookie" Roberts of Georgia and Teresa "Terry" Bowers of Kingsport; a son, Paul Bryan Anderson of Norfolk, VA; a sister, Mrs. Clyde (Maxie) Stringer of Bristol VA; three brothers, Denver Anderson of Bristol TN, Henry Lynn Anderson of Jacksonville, FL, and Harold Anderson of Detroit; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Edgar Pierce will officiate. Music will be by members of the church. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 am. in Garden of Everlasting Life, where the family will meet. Mr. Anderson was also preceded in death by a brother, Kernie Anderson. BAILEY, FRANCES DEAKINS KINGSPORT -- Frances Deakins Bailey, 81, of Hillside Manor, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. She was born in Blountville, Muddy Creek community, a daughter of the late I.W. and Mollie Deakins, and had resided at 4765 Lone Star Road in Kingsport most of her life. She was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Surviving are her husband, Oscar C. Bailey; a daughter, Mary Faulkner of Fall Branch, TN; a son, Bill Bailey of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Richard Hicks of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Will Bailey and Beth Bailey, both of Knoxville, Avery Copeland of Johnson City and Neal Faulkner of Fall Branch; and a great-granddaughter, Marley Amber Copeland of Johnson City. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. John F. Toney will officiate. The body will be in the church one hour prior to the service. BARE, NOLA BLUFF CITY -- Nola Bare, 93, of 1563 Old Elizabethton Highway South died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Pike County, KY, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Katherine Varney Brunty. She had lived in Bluff City for many years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the widow of H.H. Bare. Surviving are a son, Orville Bare of Bluff City; a daughter, Atheline Massengill of Watauga, TN; three brothers, Sherwood Brunty of Lexington, KY, Millard Brunty of Tampa, FL, and William Brunty of Ashtabula, OH; three sisters, Lola Kozee of Williamson, WV, Mary Maloywaski of Danville, VA, and Evalou Hall of Wilmington, DE; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in Bluff City Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. The Rev. Rodney Fields and Ernie Depew, minister, will officiate. BARE, WILLIAM A. BLUFF CITY -- William A. "Dude" Bare, 68, of 1176 Chinquapin Grove Road died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Carter County, a son of the late Roby and Blanche Vandeventer Bare. He was a retired employee of the Buick Motor Division of General Motors in Flint, MI. He was a partner in Bare's BBQ of Bristol. He was inducted into the 278th Tennessee National Guard in 1950 and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was of the Christian faith. Surviving are his wife, Anna J. BEELER, WILLIAM DAVID "DUBB" William David "Dubb" Beeler, 78, of Bristol TN died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at home. A lifelong resident of Bristol Tennessee, he was U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a maintenance supervisor with Hechts and Purity Bakery with over 35 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the King Lodge in Bristol Tennessee and the Knights Templar. He was a member of Bradley Street Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dannie (Linda) Sexton and Mrs. Ronnie (Brenda) Worley, both of Bristol TN; a son, Jack L. BLEVINS, MARY LUCILLE WATSON GLADE SPRING -- Mary Lucille Watson Blevins, 75, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Grace Health Care. A lifelong resident of Washington County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Bynum and Mary Ettie Watson, and the widow of R.L. "Polly" Blevins. Surviving are a son, Bobby Blevins of Glade Spring; a brother, Jesse Watson of Abingdon; and a granddaughter, Cristie B. Lester. Mrs. Blevins was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lee Blevins. She also leaves behind a faithful companion, Pepper. She was born in Blountville, a daughter of the late James and Faye Laughlin Harper, and was employed as a housekeeper for private homes and motels for 30 years, retiring in 1988. CARTER, KENNETH WAYNE Sr. (Elder)Elder Kenneth Wayne Carter Sr., 53, of Bristol VA died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bristol Virginia, a son of the late Paul and Blanche Carter. He was employed by Eastman Chemical Co. He was pastor of Mount Calvary United Holiness Church for over 10 years, was a former president of the NAACP and Bristol Area Ministerial Alliance. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in support of the Department of Defense Operations during the Apollo XI Mission, the first moon landing flight in July 1969. Surviving are his wife, the Rev. Margo Carter; a son, Elder Ken Carter Jr. of Bristol; a daughter, Charlotte Marie C. Roberts of Bristol; a brother, Paul Edward Carter of Bristol VA; a sister, Sally Elaine Carter of Bristol Virginia; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. HEATH, CALVIN ALDRICH BLUFF CITY -- Calvin Aldrich "Cal" Heath, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at home. He was born in Lincoln, NH, an only child of the late Ralph Wheelock Heath and Hattie Jane Heath. He graduated from North Woodstock High School in 1933 and received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of New Hampshire 1938-40. He was commissioned a second lieutenant, infantry, in 1938, through ROTC at the University of New Hampshire. He received a regular Army commission in 1940 and served in the European Theater of Operation 1944-47. He commanded the 2nd Battalion, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry (Yankee) Division, 3rd Army, throughout combat and became a lieutenant colonel. Mr. Heath served at the Pentagon for five years and later at the Detroit Ordnance District. He was promoted to full colonel. In the mid-1950's, he commanded the San Francisco Ordnance District, where he was responsible for many defense procurements during post World War II modernization. He served as a leader with the U.S. Army Ordnance Missile Command Team in Huntsville, AL, that successfully launched the first U.S. satellite, Explorer I, in 1958. He retired from active duty in 1960, concluding a 22-year career, during which he was a recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, four campaign battle stars, commendation medal with oak leaf cluster and General Staff medal. Mr. Heath was an executive with Sperry Rand/Univac Corp., retiring again in 1972. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Heath; a daughter, Kathryn Slade of Oakton, VA; a son, Ralph Heath of Aledo, TX; and four grandchildren. PIKE, HERBERT R. Herbert R. Pike, 79, formerly of Ilion, NY, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in New York City, a son of the late Arthur and Martha Emmerth Pike, and had resided in Coytesville, NJ He graduated from Fort Lee New Jersey High School and studied engineering at Stevens Tech in Hoboken, NJ He was a U.S. Army veteran from 1941 to 45 assigned to the Panama Canal Zone for 22 months as a T//3 electrician, automotive. He was employed by Remington Rand (Sperry Univac), now Unisys Corp., and transferred to Bristol Tennessee in 1973, where he retired after 35 years as a manufacturing engineer. Mr. Pike was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, an honorary life member of 56 years in the Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the James J. Hickie Council 6695, where he served as Grand Knight, financial secretary and multiple offices during his tenure. He was a Faithful Scribe in the Father John Aiken Assembly No. 1840, Knights of Columbus fourth degree. He was a life member in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and a member of the Country Club of Bristol for 26 years. For several years, he participated in the Seniors Bowling Leagues. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Dickens Pike; a daughter, Beverly P. Nichols of Murfreesboro, TN; three sisters, Gertrude Leahy of Pennsylvania; A. SIZEMORE, FRANK LEE Frank Lee Sizemore, 71, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN. He was born in Kitts, KY, a son of the late Owen and Classisa Sizemore, and had lived in the Bristol area since his retirement in 1984. Prior to moving to the Bristol area, he lived in Lynch, KY, where he was a 37-year employee with the U.S. Steel Corp. in underground mining. He held several positions with the company, including serving as a general construction foreman for the company's 35 mines. He was a 10-year member of the company's mine rescue team. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in Germany, a member of Field Masonic Lodge 832 of Cumberland, KY, and the Shrine Oleika Temple AAONMS of Lexington, KY. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Lynch Baptist Church in Lynch. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Juanita Monhollen Sizemore; two sons, Frank Jr. of Louisville and Kerry of Knoxville; a brother, Marcus of Greensboro, NC; three sisters, Thelma Clark of Cumberland, Dorothy Sands of Maynardville, TN, and Dolly Rise of Winchester, VA.
