The Will of Elijah D. Carney, Stewart County, TN.
Elijah D. Carney

I, Elijah D. Carney, do make and publish this as my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all others by me at anytime made.

First, I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any monies I may die possessed of or may first come into the hands of my executor.

Secondly, I give and bequeath to my sons, WILLIAM J.CARNEY and THOMAS SMITH CARNEY, and my daughter, BETTY FITZHUGH, wife of HENRY FITZHUGH, each one fourth of all the real estate of which I may die possessed or seized and to my grandchildren, to wit: PINK JOYCE, WILLIE JOYCE, SARAH LANCASTER, and GEORGE LANCASTER, they being children of my daughter, EMILY FRANCIS, the other one fourth of my said real estate jointly.

Thirdly, I give and bequeath all the personal property of every description that I may own at the time of my death after my said debts and funeral expenses are paid, to my children and grandchildren, to wit: to my children, JAMES CARNEY, JOHN CARNEY, JOSEPHINE ROSMAN, wife of JOHN ROSMAN, MARY LANCASTER, wife of JAMES LANCASTER, ELIJAH CARNEY, SALLIE LINDSAY, wife of GUS LINDSAY, one seventh each of my said personal property, and to my grandchildren, being the children of MARTHA LANCASTER, deceased, wife of WILLIAM LANCASTER, the other one seventh of my said personal property jointly. And for reasons satisfactory to my self, it is my will that my son, JOEL CARNEY, known as B. Carney, my grandson, HARLEY CARNEY, son of LOTT CARNEY, deceased and my grand- children, the children of SALLIE MCKINNEY, deceased, wife of HORRIS McKINNEY, have no interest in my estate, it being my desire that my said estate be distributed under the provisions of the foregoing clauses of this my will.

Lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint G.W. McElroy, my executor.

In witness whereof, I so to this my will set my hand, this the 28th day of July, 1898.
