Stewart County Historical Society is a 2002 AASLH Award Winner

NASHVILLE, TN -- July, 2002 -- The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) proudly announces that the Stewart County Historical Society is the recipient of an AASLH Certificate of Commendation for Stewart County, Tennessee History and Families, Vol. II. The AASLH Annual Awards Program, now in its 57th year, is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of local, state and regional history. Awards for 2002 represent 70 organizations and individuals from the United States. Award winners will be honored at a special banquet during the 2002 AASLH Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon on Friday, September 27, 2002. A generous contribution from The History Channel will once again help underwrite the cost of the Awards Banquet.

The awards program was initiated in 1945 to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state and local history throughout America. The AASLH Awards Program not only honors significant achievement in the field of local history, but also brings public recognition of the opportunities for small and large organizations, institutions and programs to make contributions in the arena. For more information about the awards program, contact AASLH at (615) 320-3203.
