Article of agreement made and entered into between Daniel
YOUNG of the county of Smith and state of Tennessee of the
the one part and me the under named subscribers of the
county of Smith and state __ of ___
other part witnesseth that the D. YOUNG doth agree to
teach an English school Viz Reading, writing and
arithmetic to the best of his skill and knowledge for the term
of twelve months reserving two days in each week for his
own amusement, To wit, Saturday and Sunday and all hollidays
excepted and give all due attendance on each other day unless
prevented by illness or extreme bad weather. Should any
time be lost by D. YOUNG he shall teach the same length
of time after the above mentioned period. School to
commence as soon as a sufficient number of subscribers
is made up. D. YOUNG is find his own accommodation
and we the under named subscribers do oblige ourselves
to furnish a good comfortable house with a fire place
__________ writing tables and keep the same in repair
__________ term and pay D. YOUNG eight dollars per
scholar one half at the end of six months and the
other half at the end of the term. We the under named
subscribers and D. YOUNG have jointly and soverally
bound ourselves to each other in witness wherof we
have hereunto set our hands this 1st day of Decr 1820.
