Joseph W. Allen College

The Joseph W. Allen College was located on Highway 25, on the Northwest border
of town, toward Hartsville. And stood on the present Smith County Hospital property.
After the school closed, the property was purchased by E.L.Huffines. He made an extensive
restoration to the house to make it a residence for his family rather than an institutional
building. Remodeling included taking down the bell tower. The house burned in 1928.

There is a article in "The Smith County History" Book beginning on page 139 and a picture of
the conversion to a house on page 138. Also another picture of the college on page 137.
