This was my father's last year in school. He was 13 years old and in the 8th grade.
He joined the Army in 1920 when he was 17 and spent a year in Texas on the Mexican
border, near Brownsville. In 1922, he joined the Navy and retired in 1954 as a Cdr.,
not too bad for a kid from Hogans Creek.

I have a copy of a picture that was published in the Carthage paper.
