Funeral services for Mrs. Callie Kemp, age 77, of the Difficult Community, were conducted Sunday afternoon, June 18, from the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Burial in the Defeated Memorial Gardens. Bro. Doug Curtis and Bro. James Porter officiated at the 2:00 o'clock services.

Mrs. Kemp, widow of the late Estle Kemp, died Saturday morning at Smith County Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born in Smith County on March 16, 1901, she was the daughter of the late Dixon Larkin and Nancy Elizabeth Jones and was a longtime member of the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Tommie Shepherd of Kempville, Mrs. Hubert Shepherd of Defeated and Mrs. Lloyd Kemp of Difficult; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
