Monday afternoon, Nov. 23, 1959 at a local infirmary, Mrs. Maude Kemp Jones, age 73 years. Survived by husband, Arthur Clarence Jones, 1307 Edgewood Place; a son, James Allen Jones, Decatur, Ala.; two brothers, Ottie Kemp and Willie Kemp, both of Nashville; three grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Remains rest at the funeral home of Phillips-Robinson Company where funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Hayward Highfill. Honorary pallbearers: Men's Bible Class of Eastland Baptist Church, former and present employees of Nashville Transit Co.. Active pallbearers: Brent Reece, Billy Nelson, Kelly Carpenter, Lloyd Dorris, Carsie Kittrell, Draper Martie, Bob Sesnan, Forrest Johnson. Interment Spring Hill Cemetery, Phillips-Robinson Co.

Maude was the daughter of James Allen Kemp who fought in the Civil War and whose name was on the list of soldiers who witnessed Gen. Robert E. Lee and Gen. U.S. Grant signing the papers that brought an end to the most horrific war on our soil, that April 1865 in Appomattox, Virginia. She joined the United Daughter's of the Confederacy claiming her father as her ancestor in 1951. This is from the U.D.C. book:

Married to Sarah Susan Perry on 22 Feb. 1877. She was b. 18 July 1859.

Maude was the granddaughter of Wiley and Elizabeth (Betsy) Jones Kemp and the great granddaughter of Solomon Kemp and Wiley Jones Sr. of Smith Co., Tenn. Arthur Clarence Jones was the son of James Richard Jones and Cassie Latony West. He was the grandson of Wiley and Mary Parker Jones Jr. and Martha Williams, d/o James Clardy and Millicent Sutton Williams, and Isaac Dixon West. Mary Parker Jones was the daughter of Richard Parker who was the brother to Lucy Parker West, wife of the Elder Miles West. Isaac Dixon West was the son of William West and grandson of Miles West. According to Hoke Holland West in his book "What's In A Name?" Maude and Arthur's son, James Allen Jones m. Thelma Bracey and they had a daughter Norma Faye Jones b.1937 and m. Burrus Dorris in 1955. They had a son Burrus Dorris Jr. who was born in Decatur, Ala. and was brought home from the hospital in a long dress made by his great-great-great grandmother, Mrs. Isaac D. West 75 years before for her grandson Arthur C. Jones. On this trip from Decatur General Hospital, young Dudley Burrus Dorris Jr. was the fourth direct descendant to wear this baby dress. He was born March 12, 1956.
