Highers, John B.  1863 – 1920

 

 

JOHN B. HIGHERS, FORMER SMITH COUNTIAN, DEAD

 

   While at work in a mine at Cleaton, near Central City, KY, Mr. John B. Highers sustained a broken leg and arm, from a falling slate on the 5th day of March. The physicians amputated his leg, and the shock was so great that death resulted the following day.

 

Mr. Highers was born and reared in Smith County and his many friends, relatives and acquaintances will be grieved to learn of his untimely death. He was 57 years old, and a well respected citizen. He leaves a number of children, all of wh  (torn away) grown except one, and he h (torn away) serving with the U.S. army  (torn away) nce.

 

   Upon receipt of the news of the accident, his brothers, S.C. and B.S. Highers of Dixon Springs and Henry Highers of Rome, and his nephews, Banks, Jr., and James Highers, of Dixon Springs, hurried to his bedside and some of them arrived in time to see him alive.
