Funeral services for Mrs. Ben L. Duke, 71, who died at her Home Sunday after a long illness, were conducted at the residence Monday by the Rev. Clair Suddarth, assisted by the Rev. W.H. Atkins, pastor of the Carthage Methodist Church.

Mrs. Duke, one of Smith County's most beloved women, had long been in ill Health, but had not been critically ill until three weeks ago, when she was stricken with paralysis. She joined the Baptist Church when she was a Young girl, but in recent years had moved her membership to the Methodist Church. She was born and reared in Smith County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Layton Kemp.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Eula Grigg, Mrs. Edgar Hackett, Mrs. J.C. Cardwell, Mrs. Carl Kirby and Mrs. Walter R. Malone; one Son, Carsie Duke; three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Sircy, Mrs. Fannie Donoho, and Mrs. Will Duke; and one brother, Henry Kemp.
