Dillehay, Jewel Lee 1922-1999

 

 

Retired Smith County building Contractor Jewel Lee Dillehay of Carthage died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, March 25, 1999 at his Turkey Creek Community Home after a twelve and a half year battle with lung cancer, at the age of 77. Services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home, with Burial in the Smith County Memorial Gardens.  Rev. Russell Cain and Bro. Ed Spiva officiated at the 1:00 p.m. services.

 

On July 10, 1947 he was married to the Former Evelyn Patterson of Defeated Creek, who survives. Born in the Defeated Creek Community, he was the Son of the late Herlin and Eva Taylor Dillehay.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fletcher Dillehay.  Mr. Dillehay was an Army veteran of World War II. He and his brother, Raymon Dillehay of Defeated Creek, founded the Dillehay Construction Co. in March of 1962 and built many area homes and businesses before their retirement in 1992.

 

Surviving, in addition to his wife of almost fifty two years, and his brother, Raymon, is a daughter and Son-in-Law, Paulette and Michael Witt; Son and daughter-in-Law, Hoyt and Vickie Dillehay, all of Cookeville; sister, Opal Green of Defeated Creek; two other brothers, James T. Dillehay of Defeated Creek, Lester Dillehay of Mt. Juliet; five grandchildren, Leigh Ann, Julie and Daniel Witt, Greg and Lee Dillehay, all of Cookeville. Sanderson of Carthage.
