   *William Smith son of Alfred & Elizabeth “Betsey Beasley Smith,  “A Confederate boy guerrilla, was

    killed by Yankee soldiers on a Feb morning in 1865 on Goose Creek in the McClanahan Hollow near

    Carman Hollow. He had spent the night in a blacksmith shop on Dixon Creek and the next morning

    was found and killed. Upon hearing of this, his uncle Isham Beasley sent a wagon across the hill

    and brought his body to Cato and buried him the next day in the home cemetery. His grave is

    marked with a rock which stands 5 feet south of the base of a 4 feet Elm tree."
