Joseph McCall’s Deed

This indenture made this 28th of May in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty six between D. C. Ward, William B. Moore & Armisted Moore of one part & Joseph McCall of the other part all of the County of Smith & State Tennessee witnesseth that the said D. C. Ward, William B. Moore & Armisted Moore for and in consideration of the sum of sixty six dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, has granted, sold and confirmed and by these presents do bargain, grant, sell and convey unto the said Joseph McCall, his heirs and assigns forever a certain lot in the town of Rome known as Lot No. 3 Beginning at the southeast corner of Lot No. 2 running North 80 (degrees) East 33 yds to a stake, thence North 80 yds to the river, thence down said river to the north east corner of said Lot No. 2, thence South 80 yds to the beginning containing half acre of land.  To have and to hold the aforesaid lot of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him the said Joseph McCall his heirs and assigns forever and all the aforesaid D. C. Ward, William B. Moore & Armisted Moore will warrant and defend the right and title of the afforesaid lot the said Joseph McCall his heirs and assigns from the claim or claims of all other persons whatsoever.  In testimony where of which hereunto we have set our hands and affirm our seals this day and date above written delivered in the presents of A. L. Bains, J. D. Grissum (sic)

Smith County        ) 1836. Then the execution of the _______ from D. C. Ward, W. B. Moore and A. Moore to Joseph McCall bearing date of 28th day of May 1836 was produced in open court for probate and was duly proven in open court by the oaths of A. L. Bains & J. D. Grissam (sic) the subscribing witnesses to said deed and in motion ordered to be certified for registration attest
