This Indenture made this Ninth Day of August one Thousand eight Hundred & Eleven Between George THOMASSON of the county of Smith & State of Tennessee of the one part & William HEROD of the County & State aforsd of the other part.  Witnesseth that the said George THOMASSON for & in consideration of the sum of Four Hundred Dollars of good & lawfull Money of Tennessee to him in hand well & truly paid by the said William HEROD, the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged, have granted bargained & sold & do by these presents grant bargain sell convey demise alien exposit convey & confirm unto the said William HEROD his heirs & Assigns forever, all that certain piece & parcel of Land whereon the said George THOMASSON now lives, situate lying & being in the State & County above mentioned on a West fork of Paytons Creek, Beginning at a Poplar sugar tree & white elm saplin on John & James BONNER’s West boundary, runing thence west one Hundred & thirty five poles to a Beech, then North one Hundred & thirty two Poles to two elms and thence East one Hundred & thirty five Poles to a stake & thence South to the Beginning containing by estimation One Hundred & Eleven acres sixty poles.  To Have & to Hold the aforesaid Tract of Land & bargained premises & ever part and parcel thereof unto him the said William HEROD his Heirs & assigns forever.  I do hereby Warrant & Defend the same unto him the said William HEROD his Heirs & Assigns forever from all manner of person, persons whatsoever & I, the said George THOMASSON, do covenant & agree for himself, his Heirs, Executors, administration, & Assigns to warrant secure & defend the said land & premises & every part & parcel thereof from the claim or demand or Demands of any Person or Persons whatsoever for ever.  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand & affixed my Seal the Day & Date first above written or mentioned.

Then the Execution of the within Deed of Conveyance was duly proven in open Court by the oaths of Richard TAYLOR & Charles NICKSON, witnesses thereto & ordered to be registered

This Indenture made this Tenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty two between Samuel THOMASSON of the County of Smith & State of Tennessee of the one part, and William HEROD, Senr of the County & State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that the said Samuel THOMASSON for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to him in hand well and truly paid by the sd. William HEROD, Senr., the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, htat bargained sold aliened & confirmed, and by these presents doth bargain & sell unto the said William HEROD, Sr his heirs executors & administrators forever a certain tract or parcel of Land, containing sixty eight acres be the same more or less situate in the County & State aforesaid in the first district on the head waters of bigg Barren, it being a part of two hundred acre tract granted to Daniel WITCHER, Senr. by the State of Tennessee.  Beginning on a white oak & Dogwood where the East boundary line of the two hundred acre Tract crosses Branch, runs south fifty three degrees west one hundred and thirteen poles to a white oak, thence south ten degrees, west eight poles to a stake on the south boundary line of the above mentioned two hundred acre tract, thence east with that line one hundred & two poles to a Black Oak & white Oak (the original corner) thence north one hundred and fifty one poles to the Beginning, together with all ways, woods, water & water courses, mines, minerals, hereditaments & appurtenances to the said Land belonging & appertaining thereto. To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises forever, and the said Samuel TOMASSON his heirs & c. doth covenant and agree to and with the aforesaid William HERROD, Senr his heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns that he will warrant and defend the aforesaid tract of land and bargained premises against the lawful claim or claims of all persons or persons whatsoever.  In Testimony whereof the said Samuel THOMASON hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day & date above written.

State of Tennessee, Smith County, May Term 1823.  Then the execution of this deed and bargain of sale from Samuel THOMASON to William HERROD, Senr was duly proven in open court by the oaths of Peter HERROD and William HERROD, witnesses thereto, and on motion ordered to be certified for registration.
