Abel Gregory to John Shoulders a tract of land on the waters of Peyton's Creek
Abel Gregory b. Abt. 1797 NC, son of Jeremiah and Barbara Rawls Gregory, and brother to Joel
L. Gregory (my ggg-grandfather) who also lived on Peytons Creek. John Shoulders was b. Abt.
1806 TN. Both Abel and John were farmers and can be found in the 1850 Smith Co., TN census.

Deed Book S, Pgs. 470-471 - 31 August 1833(?)

This indenture made and entered into this 31st August 1833 Abel Gregory of the one
part and John Shoulders of the other part both of County of Smith and State of Tennessee
witnesseth that the said Gregory for the consideration of one hundred dollars is to
have paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained, sold and
delivered and by these presents doth hereby bargain, sell and deliver to the said John
Shoulders a certain tract of land lying on the waters of Peytons Creek and bound-
ed as followers to wit beginning at a beech and dogwood on the top a ridge
running thence south seventy six poles to a buckeye on Willmores north boundary.
Thence east with his north boundary line one hundred and seventeen and
a half poles thence to a stake on Gregorys south boundary line thirty five and a
half poles to a sugar tree his south west corner.
Thence north with the west boundary line of the same thirty poles to a Spanish Oak and Redhard(?)
bush thence west lightly four poles to the beginning containing 50 acres of land be the same
more or less to have and to hold to the said John Shoulders his heirs and assigns with the
hereditaments and appertenances thereto belonging or in anywise appertaining and
the said Abel Gregory hearby conveys for himself his heirs and assigns that he will
warrant and forever defend the said bargain premises to the said John Shoulders his
heirs and assigns forever against the claims of all and all manner of persons lawfully
claiming the same, in testimony whereof the said Abel Gregory hath hereto set his hand
and office his seal this day and date above written signed, sealed and delivered in
presents of us.                          his

Gregory the above named bargainer with whom I am personally acquainted and who
acknowledged that he executed the forgoing deed of conveyance for the purposes therein
