This indenture made 22nd day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two between Joel Gregory of the County of Smith and State of Tennessee of the one part and William C. Taylor of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Joel Gregory for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to him in hand well and truly the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William C. Taylor his heirs assigns a certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the county aforesaid on the waters of Peytons Creek on the east side of said creek bounded as follows viz.  Beginning on elm the southwest corner then east one hundred and ninety and one half poles to a poplar thence north one hundred and ninety and one half poles to a stake thence west one hundred and ninety and one half poles to a sugar three thence south one hundred and ninety and one half poles to the beginning in all containing one hundred acres be the same more or less with all and singular hereditaments appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining and the said right title interest claim and lien and whatever of him the said Joel Gregory of in and to the same lands premises and every part and parcel thereof to have and to hold the said land and premises above mentioned and every part and parcel thereof the appertainments unto said William C. Taylor his heirs and assigns to the only proper use hereof the said William C. Taylor his heirs and assigns forever and the said Joel Gregory for himself his heirs the said land premises and every part and parcel thereof against himself his heirs and all and every other person whatever will warrant and forever defend to the said William C. Taylor his heirs assigns.  In witness whereof the said Joel Gregory has hereunto set his hand and seal the date above written signed sealed and delivered in presence of us.

Burnett Clerk of Smith County Court Joel Gregory the above named bargainor with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he executed the within deed of conveyance for the purposes therein contained witness my hand at office 28th September 1842.
