ELMIRA BROWNLEE wife of Alexander Brownlee, Pickens Co., Ala., died Nov. 15, 1843 aged 27 years, 10 months [January 1816]. Born Pike Co., Miss.; moved to Holmes Co., Miss. where she married May 1, 1833; moved to Pickens County in 1841 where she died Nov. 15, 1843. Her son, JOHN OLIVER BROWNLEE, died Dec. 11, 1843 aged 5 years, 10 months [February 1838].

ELIZABETH RODGERS daughter of John and Lucy Sanford; born April 19, 1813; married Ebenezer Rodgers, Nov. 10, 1837; died Ft. Pickering, Tennessee [now part of Memphis], November 21, 1843. Her brother, JOHN SANFORD, died in the same place, November 21, 1843.

Reverend CHARLES LEDBETTER born Jan. 4, 1771; married Frances Johnston, 1800; moved to Smith Co., Tenn. about 1802; died Dec. 22, 1843. After an itinerant ministry of a few years he located and served thereafter as a Methodist local preacher; 3 daus.; 3 sons.

MARY JANE WESTER married Dr. J. W. Wester, March 25, 1835; died Roane Co., Tenn., Dec. 24, 1843 in the 29th year of her age.

On January 28, 1844 a large party of prominent citizens were aboard the steamer, Princeton, on the Potomac River, when it a big gun was fired, exploding, killing Governor [Thomas] Gilmer; Judge [Abel] Upshur, Commodore [Beverly] Kennon, Colonel [David] Gardiner, Virgil Maxey and "several others."

General WILLIAM CARROLL died Nashville, Tenn., Mar. 22, 1844 aged 56 years; buried with military honors in the city cemetery [now known as the old city cemetery]. Native of Pennsylvania, he served in the War of 1812 with rank of major-general; served twelve years as governor of Tennessee. [William Carroll was born near Pittsburg, Pa., 1788; moved to Nashville, Tenn., 1810, where he became a prominent businessman; he played a conspicuous role in the American military campaigns in the South, including the War of 1812; Governor of Tennessee, 1821-1827; 1829-1835. He died in Nashville, March 12, 1844.]

On October 23, 1844 the steamboat, Lucy Walker, left Louisville, Ky. for New Orleans; about four miles below New Albany, Indiana, while the engine was being worked on, the three boilers exploded, destroying the boat and killing many people. JOHN A. MURRELL, notorious land pirate, died Pikeville, Bledsoe Co., Tenn., Nov. 1, 1844; having admitted to many of his crimes but denied he had ever murdered anyone, as was announced in the McMinnville, Tennessee GAZETTE.

JESSE L. CRAVENS, sixth child of William and Mary Cravens (from Virginia); born Christian Co., Ky., March 31, 1799; his father died Feb. 7, 1832 aged 67 years; his mother died Feb. 5, 1832 aged 65 years (leaving five daus., five sons). Jesse married Martha Logan, Feb. 22, 1821 and moved to now-Johnson Co., Ark.; died Sept. 10, 1844.

MARY HALL died August 23, 1844 aged about 22 years; her mother died July 27, 1843.

SUSAN WARFIELD daughter of Colonel Jacob Waters, Maryland; born Mar. 22, 1802; married in 1827; died of strangulated hernia, October 28, 1844.
