In mid-November 1914 the remains and the slab tombstones of Samuel Dickins and his first wife were moved to Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. There is a large excavated hole on the southeast part of this old Spring Creek cemetery, having been begun as the Hazlewood plantation graveyard, which may have been the graves of this couple. The writer copied the date of birth (1781) and place of birth (Person Co., N.C.); date (1840) and place of death (Madison Co.) from Samuel Dickins' tombstone in Elmwood and the birthplace (Mecklenburg Co., Va.) and death date (Dec. 3, 1825) of Dickins' wife, Jane Vaughn Dickins from her tombstone in Elmwood. The cemetery is terraced on a gentle slope in its location near Spring Creek.
