Some years ago WILLIAM E. BUTLER, Madison Co., Tenn. on behalf of his granddaughter, MARTHA A. BUTLER, then a minor, sold to the Mobile and Ohio Railroad a tract of 8 acreage in Jackson for its machine and repair shops, storage yard. When Martha came of age she made a deed to Milton Brown, president of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad and because, it was supposed, of confusion from the war /Civil War/ "and the book in which the same is supposed to be registered has been lost by the casualties aforesaid so that the same cannot now be found or its precise date ascertained." After making this deed, Martha had married CHARLES W. CHANCELLOR and they conveyed to Butler, Nov. 23, 1864, this 8 acres, which he for $1 quit-claimed his interest to the tract to the railroad company. July 27, 1868. Reg Sept. 2, 1868. ALEXANDER and wife, ELIZABETH M., and BEVERLY C. STEGALL. Court heard clerk's report and confirmed it, that NANCY W. STEGALL had purchased "remainder in the dower of 134½ acres" so that title was vested in her and divested from other hrs. Madison County Chancery Court. ANN H. SCURLOCK, exec v JOS. W. SCURLOCK and others. Cause heard March 6, 1869. Court confirmed clerk's report that 24 acres in estate of T. P. SCURLOCK, dec had been divided into 4 lots. Lot 1, 10 acres had been sold to F. W. YANCEY for $1052.12 and he also bought Lot 2, 9½ acres for $1569.87. Court vested title for these lots in Yancey and divested from JOSEPH W. SCURLOCK, CATHERINE S. SCURLOCK, FANNIE B. SCURLOCK, CLARENCE H. SCURLOCK and ANN F. SCURLOCK. Reg April 2, 1869.
