A TRIBUTE TO THOMAS F. LEWIS

(Page 55)

Madison County Chancery Court Minute Book 14, page 376:

The undersigned committee heretofore appointed to prepare suitable resolutions in respect to T. F. Lewis, Esq. late a member of this /Jackson, Tennessee/ bar, respectfully present the following:

Ever alert for victims, death has recently invaded the bar of this city and taken therefrom a worthy and highly respected member. Whilst the material and mortal part of T. F. Lewis now resposes in its tomb, the unswerving integrity and exalted aim which in his walk among men, he always exhibited, have left an example altogether worthy of imitation. Thus impressed the bar aforesaid solemnly resolves that in taking from it T. F. Lewis death has deprived it of a companion and of a brother who was noble and true: that the community and the church to which he belonged have lost a member who was eminently trustworthy and useful: that from his wife and from his children has been taken their best, their strongest earthly support and that this tribute to his memory be published in the city papers.

Respectfully, E. S. Mallory, Chairman

Note:
T. F. Lewis died in October 1887 in which month his will was also proven. (Madison County Court Minute Book 17, page 408)
