POPLAR CORNER CEMETERY

Poplar Corner Cemetery is a well-maintained private cemetery in northwestern Madison County. According to Ola Horton Cates, who recorded the cemetery in 1999, George T. Crawford donated the land for this cemetery as well as land for the old Poplar Corner Baptist Church (which has since moved). The land is still owned by the Crawford family. About two dozen spaces are marked with concrete blocks with initials, either painted or contact letters. These are assumed to be space holders and were not recorded. Most graves are marked. There may be about a half dozen unmarked and unidentified graves.

To reach Poplar Corner Cemetery, follow Highway 412 about 7 miles northwest from I-40 to Ed Woods Road. (Do not turn on to Poplar Corner Road from 412; the southern segment of Poplar Corner Road, now a subdivision street, no longer connects through.) Turn right or north on Ed Wood Road, drive about a half a mile, then turn east on Poplar Corner Road.

David Donahue recorded Poplar Corner Cemetery in May 2004 working with an earlier record of the cemetery made by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd W. Johnson. Ola Horton Cate recorded Poplar Corner Cemetery in June 1999. Mr. & Mrs. Floyd W. Johnson recorded Poplar Corner Cemetery on Feb. 28, 1988. Their record appears in Family Findings, Vol. XX, No. 2, April 1988, pp. 64-66. With an update through 1995, it also appears in Madison County, Tennessee Cemetery Records, Volume II — Northern Half of County (Mid-West Tennessee Genealogical Society, 1998, pp. 158-161). This is referred to as the Johnsons in notes below.
