OBITUARY

          Mrs. Georgia Kelly Wisdom was born in Perryville (Decatur County), TN March 3,1906 to the late Chester and Azlee Yarbro Jennings. She departed this life July 16, 1993 at Forest Cove Nursing Center in Jackson, TN.

          At the age of six she moved with her family to Jackson, TN where she received her early education from the Jackson City School System. She was a graduate of Lane College and did further study at Tennessee State University.

          At an early age she accepted Christ as her Personal Savior and joined Mother Liberty C.M.E. Church where she remained a very active member until her health failed.

          She was united in holy matrimony to Hershell Kelly who preceded her in death. To this union a son was born. She later married Robert K. Wisdom, who also preceded her in death.

          Mrs. Wisdom led a fully active life. She was devoted to her church and church connection as exemplified in her many activities: At Mother Liberty she served as President of Stewardess Board #1, a member of Stewardess Board #2, the Missionary Society, the Jennings-Mosley Missionary Circle, the Senior Choir and was Director of the Food Nutrition Program from 1978-1985. She was the Past President and Treasurer of the Jackson District Missionary Society, Past President of the Missionary Society of the East TN Annual Conference; with the C.M.E. General Church she served with the Women’s Connectional Council, Executive Board and Chairperson of the Credentials Committee. She was a long time member of the Jackson-Madison County Branch of the N.A.A.C.P. and served in many capacities including chairman of the nominating committee, and actively participated in politics on the local and state level. She retired from the Madison County School System after teaching more than forty years. She was the recipient of many church and civic awards.

      Her son, Roland Hayes Kelly and her sister Mrs. Mae Jennings Cheairs preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory: two granddaughters: Brenda Kelly Reeves (Gary) of Cleveland, OH and Patricia Kelly Sims of Gary, IN; three grandsons: Randall Paul Kelly of Atlanta, GA, Michael Wayne Kelly (Di’Nita) of Cleveland, OH and Stephen Vincent Kelly (Vivian) of Sembach Air Force Base, Germany. A daughter-in-law Velora Bingham Kelly of Cleveland, OH, fourteen great-grandchildren: LaMonte, Dionne, Marquis, Alexis, Patrice, Michael, Marcylyn, Sean, Shatia, Dana, Daran, Marcus, Mitchell and Gary. A nephew, Ross B. Cheairs Jr., a brother-in-law, Ross B. Cheairs Sr., a special niece who took care of her during her illness, Angel Colette Williamson, a great-niece and nephew other relatives and friends.
