JEANETTE CEMETERY
(Moore Chapel Cemetery)Jeanette Cemetery is a black cemetery located between the new and old rights of way for State Highway 69 at Gibson Road, about a half mile south of the community of Jeanette. It is called Moore Chapel Cem. on the U.S.G.S. Jeanette quadrangle (1986). I have been told another name for this cemetery but cannot remember it. The cemetery is not maintained. David Donahue recorded this cemetery December 27, 1996 and checked and updated it October 29, 2003. On both visits the cemetery was too overgrown to estimate the number of unmarked graves. There were three burials (one is unidentified) since 1996.
Blanche Tuten and Margarett Alexander recorded this cemetery on June 10, 1976. Their record appears under the name "Jeanette Negro Cemetery" in Decatur County, Tennessee Cemetery Records published by the Captain Nathaniel A. Wesson Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Parsons, Tennessee, 1984, 286-287. Reference is made to their work where appropriate. Alexander and Tuten note "about 70 unmarked graves."
