NICHOLAS MORGAN ELLIS oldest of the two sons of Rev. Ira and Mary Ellis; born Granville [Greenville?] Co., Va., Sept. 1, 1796; married Mary, daughter of Starling Gunn, Caswell Co., N.C., Sept. 1, 1819; lived in Pittsylvania Co., Va. until he moved in 1829 to Christian Co., Ky., where he died April 24, 1849. His brother, Ira I. Ellis, submitted his obituary.

CHARLES R. KINCHELOE son of Elias Kincheloe, Nelson Co., Ky., born there, Nov. 23, 1811; died Henry Co., Ky., May 28, 1849.

GEORGE N. NELLS and Mrs. MARY A. BARNETT (aged 38 years), on their way to visit MARIA LOUISA ROBERTS, ill in Pike Co., MO, while riding a buggy were struck and killed by lightning, June 14, 1849. Miss Roberts died that same day in the 19th year of her age.

ELIZA GILES wife of Robert Giles; daughter of R. M. and Caroline Spicer, died Holly Springs, Miss., June 14, 1849 aged 19 years and 3 months old [March 1830].

EMALY McGEHEE wife of A. McGehee, Bolivar Co., Miss., died June 5, 1849 in the 19th year of her age; dropsy.

Judge FREDERICK B. NELSON died Athens, Ala., June 30, 1849 in the 59th year of his age; surviving were his second wife, two daughters, several sons, including Thomas H. He settled in Limestone County, Ala. in 1819 (and was judge of its county court for about nine years).

MARTHA ANN ATKINS wife of A. G. Atkins, born in MO, April 18, 1830; died Ft. Gibson, Cherokee Nation, April 3, 1849; married August 17, 1847.

SUSANNAH JOHNSTON daughter of Henry and Catharine Peters, born Sevier Co., Tenn., May 22, 1802; moved with parents to Jackson Co., Ala., 1823; married Michael Johnston, Jan. 20, 1825; moved to Crawford Co., Ark., 1834 where she died April 23, 1849. Baptist. Twelve children.

MARGARET O. TAYLOR oldest daughter of David and Rebecca Brandon; born Halifax Co., Va., Nov. 1, 1801; married Charles D. Taylor, Dec. 18, 1821 and moved to Madison Co., Tenn., 1831 where he died Dec. 7, 1846 and she died April 22, 1849.

NANCY WILSON born Orange Co., N.C., Jan. 7, 1784; daughter of Edward and Mary Wortham; married John Wilson, Aug. 12, 1802; he died about 1812 and she moved to Bedford Co., Tenn. about 1820; died May 22, 1849.

JOHN WRIGHT born Brunswick Co., Va., May 1, 1770; died Allen Co., Ky., March 14, 1849; moved to Allen Co. in 1805; husband and father (5 daus., 7 sons).

Mrs. ELIZABETH JAMES daughter of John Duke; born Wake Co., N.C., 1770; moved with parents to Tennessee in 1793; married Thoma James, 1796. Her daughter, MARY T. JONES; born in 1801. Her daughter-in-law, MARY E., wife of John D. Jones and daughter of Samuel Scott, Jefferson Co., Miss., born 1829. All three women died recently of cholera.

HARRIET FRANCES PORTER daughter of Nathaniel and Ann Porter; born April 23, 1845; died May 26, 1849. Bedford Co., Tennessee.

JESSE DAZEY died in residence of his son, Kendall Dazey, Marshall Co., Tenn., June 30, 1849 in the 70th year of his age.

JANE TRINDLE wife of John Trindle, Ray Co., MO, died June 7, 1839 in the 20th year of her age.

Rev. JACOB ARNOLD died July 27, 1849 nearly 24 years old; licensed to preach in Methodist Church, Oct. 25, 1844; local Methodist preacher; alumnus, Augusta College.

MARY ANN LEWIS daughter of Joel Payne; wife of Dr. William G. Lewis; died Jacksonport, Ark., June 11, 1849 in the 25th year of her age; two children.

SUSAN F. FLOWERRY daughter of Benjamin and Margaret F. Glasscock; born in Virginia; moved with parents to MO and married John Richard Flowerry, Oct. 12, 1839; died May 27, 1849; consumption; five children.

THOMAS CLAIBORNE SAUNDERS born Madison Co., Ala., Feb. 28, 1816; died Chicot Co., Ark., June, 21, 1849; graduate of LaGrange College, Ala., 1837; moved to Harrison Co., Texas in 1838; married a daughter of John Webster; she soon died, leaving an infant son, Webster, twelve days old; moved to Ark. in 1839; married a daughter of Major Pettit, Jan. 28, 1849; died of cholera.

Colonel BURCHETT DOUGLASS son of Elmore Douglass; born Sumner Co., Tenn.; served in War of 1812; served in the state legislature; moved to Somerville, Tenn., 1836 and served in the state legislature again; president of the Branch Bank of Tennessee; died recently. [BIOGRAPHICAL DIRECTORY OF THE TENNESSEE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, edited by R. M. McBride, volume 1, 1975, pages 210-211. Burchett Douglass born Oct. 6, 1793. Died Fayette Co., Tenn., July 31, 1849. Also, the present writer checked the dates on Douglass' tombstone in the Dancyville Methodist Churchyard and found them agree with those in the BDTG. ]

Rev. JACOB BROWN EBEY born Franklin Co., Ohio, Jan. 12, 1828; licensed to preach in the Methodist Church, Nov. 1846; entered itinerant ministry, Rochester mission but his health failed; he died Adair Co., MO, in residence of his father, Jacob Ebey, May 10, 1849.

HENRY E. JONES died Sumner Co., Tenn., April 30, 1849 in the 61st year of his age; read the Bible 23 times in 24 years.

BOLIVAR E. PHARES son of John C. and Elizabeth Phares born Greene Co., Ala., Mar. 10, 1825; joined Methodist Church, Dec. 1839; graduate, LaGrange College, Ala., June 1845; died Manattee, Florida, April 6, 1849.

LUCRETIA HILL wife of Harris Hill; born Jefferson Co., Miss.; died in same county, July 19, 1849 in the 48th year of her age.

FRANCES T. LEE wife of John A. Lee, born Stewart Co., Tenn.; died there, July 16, 1849; married Dec. 7, 1829; eight children.

SAMUEL WELLS was injured while working on a public road and died August 2, 1849, Maury Co., Tenn.; husband and father (1 child).

Colonel RICHARD CALLAWAY, Salem, Franklin Co., Tenn.; born 1771; married Margaret Wills, 1791; an early resident of Kentucky; served in the that state's legislature; moved to Franklin Co., Tenn., 1805; fought in War of 1821; died June 4, 1849. Baptist.

ANN DIEFFENWIERTH wife of Rev. P. H. Dieffenwierth died July 14, 1849. Louisiana.

WILLIAM E. MOORMAN son of Charles W. and Maria A. Moorman, died Aug. 9, 1849 aged 5 years, 5 months and 7 days old [March 2, 1844].

SARAH L. CHRISTISON daughter of Joseph and Nancy Tippet; born Lawrence Co., Tenn., May 4, 1822; moved with parents to Pulaski Co., MO, 1831; married William Vann, 1836; moved to Bates Co., MO, 1842 where her husband died; returned to Pulaski County and married Josiah Christison, June 4, 1848; died April 21, 1849.

WILLIAM V. NORTON son of William Norton; born Marion Dist., S.C., May 6, 1807; moved with parents to Alabama in 1826; died Barbour Co., Ala., June 12, 1849; husband and father (8 ch.)

SAMUEL DOWNARD father of Rev. Hiram T. Downard, Louisville Conference; born Fayette Co., Pa., Feb. 24, 1785; moved with parents to Pendleton Co., Ky.; married Hannah T., widow of Thomas Walton; moved to Campbell Co., Ky., 1837; died August 1, 1849.

Rev. RICHARD JOHNSON died Sumner Co., Tenn., June 22, 1849 in the 90th year of his age. Revolutionary War veteran; well-known Methodist preacher in Va., Tenn. and Ky. conferences; ordained deacon, Sept. 1799; ordained elder, Nov. 1812. "His zeal for the cause of God and the salvation of the human race did not abate as age crept on but he preached the last Sabbath he was able to ride on horseback."[In his pension application S2664, dated August 1832, Johnson stated that he served in the Virginia Line when he lived in Hanover County, Virginia. He was living in Sumner Co., Tenn. in 1832.]

ISABELLA McCOLLOCK wife of John A. McKendree, died Fayette Co., Tenn.; recently, in the 36th year of her age; daughter of Joseph and Rose [ ]ving.

CHARLOTTY MITCHEL wife of William Mitchel, Poinsett Co., Ark., died June 25, 1849; daughter of Robert and Elizabeth McALISTER; born Cape Girardeau, MO, Jan. 27, 1815; married July 1, 1831; ten children, five surviving her.

GRAY B. MEDLIN born Franklin Co., N.C., Jan. 30, 1803; moved to Wilson Co., Tenn., 1822, then to west Tennessee, to Madison County, 1833, where he died July 24, 1849.

JAMES McCASLAND born Jefferson Co., Ky., Oct. 17, 1791; when young went to live in Louisville, Ky. and later lived in Newcastle, Ky. where he died July 20, 1849; he and his wife had a son (died of cholera, 1833) and a daughter.

MARTHA COOPER wife of George Cooper; native of Craven Co., N.C.; a resident of Haywood County, Tenn., 1835-1845; died Newbern, N.C., Aug. 15, 1849 in the 63rd year of her age.

BENJAMIN ROGGERS son of Matthew and Rebecca Roggers died in 25th year of his age, June 1849, while in a group traveling to California.

MARY JANE P. FERRIL born St. Charles Co., Maryland, Nov. 1, 1833; died in same county, Aug. 5, 1849. A tribute in her memory by staff of Meadow Dale Sunday School in which she had taught; dated August 10, 1849.

LEVI CASSITY of the firm, Martin, Cassity and &., a cotton factory near Florence, Ala., died 2.5 miles from Florence, Sept. 3, 1849. Born Bath Co., Ky., Mar. 21, 1798; four children.

BOOTH MALONE son of William and Lucretia Malone; born Dinwiddie Co., Va., June 6, 1779; married Peggy Norsworthy, March 19, 1801; licensed to preach in Methodist Church, 1804; ordained deacon, 1815; moved to Wilson Co., Tenn., 1810; on September 22, 1846 he was dragged in an accident by his horse, breaking a thigh bone. He died in Tippah Co., Miss., in residence of his son-in-law, Colonel F. T. Leake, June 14, 1849.

Champlin; reelected and served from October 28, 1811, to March 3, 1821; again a member of the State house of representatives 1822-1826; resumed the practice of his profession in Newport; appointed by President Jackson Charge d'Affaires to Brazil June 28, 1834, and by President Tyler Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary September 13, 1841; served until December 9, 1843; died in Newport, R.I.
