Following the closing of the Southern Claims Commission offices, several claims were still pending or had not yet been submitted. To clear up these loose ends, the following bill was introduced by U. S. Rep. Leonidas Campbell Houk, Republican Congressman from Sevier County, TN. The bill itself covered over 100 pages and several states. Included here are only those claims for counties bordering on Monroe County. I have transcribed the entries for Tennessee, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, and Indiana. Mr. Houk, from the Committee on War Claims, reported the following bill:

A Bill For the allowance of certain claims reported by the accounting officers of the United States Treasury Department
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress Assembled that the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and required to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to the several persons in this act named, the several sums mentioned herein, the same being in full for, and the receipt of the same to be taken and accepted in each case as full and final discharge of, the several claims exmined and allowed by the proper accounting officers under the provisions of an act of July fourth, eighteen hundred and sixty-four, since January ninth, eighteen hundred and eighty-two namely:
