Researching STAFFORD ancestors from Tennessee. I have confirmed
information only to my Great-Granfather-Caleb Stafford born
11/11/1858. He married Mahaley Beasley (Daughter of Jesse
Beasley). Children of the marriage were:
Howard, William, Jesse (died as infant). and Herod. Caleb and
family left Cato,TN (Trousdale county) in 1905-6 for Callaway
county, Missouri. Caleb's death certificate shows his father
and mother to be a SAMUEL and ELIZABETH JANE (maiden name not
known) STAFFORD. The 1870 census appears to indicate a total of
4 children, Caleb, Sarah, Mary and Eliza J. The 1880 census for
Macon county shows Sarah & Eliza J. as servants in other
homes.
I have been unable to locate any information to confirm the
existence of Samuel & Elizabeth Stafford. Samuel disappears
between 1860 & 1870, and Elizabeth and children are living
with
a CAIN STAFFORD in 1870. Any and all info greatly appreciated!

WELCH The family of John Thomas WELCH, b.abt 1815, is shown in
Macon Co. censuses of 1850 (Dist 6 Fam 409) and 1860 (Fam 707).
His wife
was Elizabeth. (There are errors in the 1850 census which show
his middle initial as P., wife and daughter's name
switched, and one daughter named Mary instead of Missouri. But
the rest of the children appear correct). His wife and some children
are shown in Jackson Co., Tenn. in the 1860 census, so John Thomas
(known as Thomas) apparently died between 1860 and 1870.
Question: Is he buried someplace in Macon Co.? Is there a death
certificate or will in Macon Co.? Records in Jackson Co. were
destroyed in courthouse fire of 1872. Did 1901 fire in Macon Co.
do the same thing? Is there a cemetery book for Macon Co.? Any
help would be appreciated.
WELCH - My ancestor is John Thomas WELCH, b. betw 1809 and 1817, and
was living in Macon (then Smith) Co. 1840 - 1860. He probably died
there between 1860 and 1870. I believe his wife's was Elizabeth
JONES. Children were: John P. (1814-1913); Minerva C.
(1835-1910); Richard (1835-1910); Robert A. (1841-1908); Isabel
(b. 1845); Matilda Frances (1847-1924), marr. John B. Kendall;
Missouri Ann (1852-1894), marr. John R. Rich; William (b.1854).
Matilda and Missouri died in Clay Co., Tenn. Missouri was shown as
Mary in the 1860 census of Macon Co. I would appreciate any
additional information on John Thomas, his ancestors and children.
