The Bible is in fragile condition, with a leather binding only on the spine. The Bible<br \/>\nregister pages (pages 677-680) were professionally restored\u2014de-acidified, cleaned and<br \/>\nstrengthened\u2014 and the Bible was placed in an archival phase box in 1994. The transcription of the Bible was published in Middle Tennessee Genealogy, Vol. VI, No. 3, Winter, 1993,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">p.103-4. (Note two corrections made after the Bible was cleaned in the transcription below to the printed version.) Tennessee Ancestors: A Publication of the East Tennessee Historical Society, Vol. 9, No. 3, December 1993, pp. 207-8, also printed this record. The clipping shows how the Bible was passed down<br \/>\nthrough the family. On a trip to Tennessee in the 1950s, Morton-Gilbert cousins gave the<br \/>\nBible to Alice Eugenia (Kirkland) West, d\/o of Gertie B. (Morton) Kirkland, b 1892 in Lincoln<br \/>\nCo., Tennessee, and Patrick G. Kirkland. Gertie Kirkland descends from three of John Roberts<br \/>\nand Sarah (Smith) Roberts\u2019 daughters, below. Alice Kirkland West gave the Bible to her<br \/>\ndaughter, Patricia A. West, the transcriber.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Transcriber&#8217;s comments<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Verbatim transcription<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cR.A. Wagster, of Chestnut Ridge, [Lincoln Co., Tenn.] has an heirloom in his family that is<br \/>\nhighly cherished. It is an old bible. It was first purchased by his great great grandfather, Jack<br \/>\nSmith, [1752-1816] who in turn handed it down to Rason Smith, [b 1781, brother of Sarah]<br \/>\nwho in turn handed it down to his [refers to R.A. Wagster] great grandmother, Sarah<br \/>\n[Smith] Roberts. She left it to her daughter, Rachael Gilbert, who gave it to Mr. Wagster for<br \/>\nSmith-Roberts Bible, 1792-1898 Transcribed by Patricia A. West 8\/15\/2015 Page 2 of 4<br \/>\nsafe keeping. His wife,<br \/>\nSarah (Smith) Roberts was born 1774 is the d\/o John Smith Sr. and his wife Elizabeth, who<br \/>\nboth died, along with their son John Smith Jr. in March 1816. The Roberts children and<br \/>\ngrandchildren lived in Bedford and Lincoln Co., Tennessee. I descend from three of the<br \/>\nRoberts daughters:<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>1. Susannah Roberts Morton, b 1807; [m John C. Morton]<br \/>\n2. Rachel Roberts Gilbert, b 1812; [m John C. Gilbert]<br \/>\n3. Lucretia Roberts Gilbert, b 1820; [m D.
