Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Garner Funeral Home with burial in Halls Cemetery. He was a member of Halls United Methodist Church. Mr. Ragland, the husband of Ruby Nell Scallions Ragland, leaves a son, Frederick Ragland III of Brownsville, and a brother, Marion Ragland of Milan.

Wymond Junior Reynolds, 20 year old resident of Halls, died of drowning about 9 o’clock Saturday night when the car in which he was riding left Highway 51 just north of South Fork bridge and went into a water filled pit. The car was driven by Dalton Williams, 41, of Halls. Mr. Williams was uninjured. Both men are employees of Columbiana Seed Co. Services for Mr. Reynolds were held a 2 Monday afternoon at Archer’s Chapel Methodist Church, near Halls, The Rev. Mr. Davison of Maury City officiated. Sudbury’s Funeral Home directed burial in Halls Cemetery. Mr. Reynolds was born in Lauderdale County and had spent his life here. He made his home with a sister, Mrs. James Davis, in Halls. He was a member of the Archer’s Chapel Church. He leaves his mother, Mrs. Emma Farris; two brothers, Ewell Reynolds of Friendship and William L. Reynolds of Maury City, and three sisters, Mrs. James Davis, Mrs. Paul Sweat and Miss. Jeffie Sue Reynolds, all of Halls.

HALLS - J. D. Rhodes, 88, retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber in Memphis after 32 years, died of heart failure Saturday at Millington Health Care. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Halls Funeral Home with burial in Halls Cemetery. He was a Mason and a member of Northview Baptist Church in Memphis. Mr. Rhodes, the husband of Ollie Reynolds Rhodes, also leaves a brother-in-law who helped care for him, Larry Reynolds of Halls.

Mrs. RICHARSON, who was 85, was born in Dyer County, and had been a resident of Lauderdale county for 65 years. She was a member of Halls Methodist Church Rev. W. F. MAXEDON, pastor, conducted funeral services at Halls Methodist Church Saturday, burial in Halls cemetery. Her son was her only close survivor.

Joyce Renee Shatley, 17, was killed in a boating accident Sunday on Kentucky Lake, when a bass boat out of control rammed the ski boat in which Miss Shatley was a passenger. Miss Shatley was a 1985 graduate of Halls High School. She was voted Miss Halls High and was second runner-up to Miss Tennessee Teen USA. She was also an alternate maid in the Strawberry Festival in Humboldt. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and a flag girl for the Halls High School Band. Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Halls First United Methodist Church with burial in Halls Cemetery. Halls Funeral Home has charge. She leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shatley, and a sister, Miss Jennifer Shatley, all of Halls, and her grandparents, Mrs. Arlie Shatley of Lashmeet, W. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church in Halls, of which she was a member. The Rev. John Deal and The Rev. Enos Thurmond officiated. Burial was in Halls Cemetery, Garner’s Ripley Funeral Home in charge. Born in Curve, she had been the Halls representative of Southern Bell Telephone Company for several years, with telephone patrons paying their bills at her store. Her husband, who founded the store in 1939, died in 1943. She leaves three sons, Thomas Simmons, of Halls, Dr. Bernard Simmons, of Obion, and Lee Simmons, of Finley; and four grandchildren.

HALLS - Ira Frank Simmons, 67, of Birmingham, formerly of Halls, retired lawyer with the Internal Revenue Service, died Monday at AMA Brookwood Hospital after a long illness. He was a 50 year Mason, Past Master of Haller Lodge No. 564 and Past Commander of Dyersburg Commandery No. 18, and member of the Dyersburg Eastern Star. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October the 7th, in the Chapel of the J. W. Curry Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Raymond Boston and Dr. Robert Orr. Burial followed in the Halls Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Fidelia Klutts Simmons. One daughter Rita Broadstone of Dyersburg; one son Ira W. Simmons III, of Panama City, Florida; one sister Mrs. Mary Norma Davis, of Memphis; three brothers, Billy Reed Simmons, of Covington, Va.; Frank Simmons of Birmingham, Ala., and Clyde Simmons of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the uncle of Tommy Simmons of Halls.

I. W. Simmons—Funeral services for Ira W. Simmons, merchant and harness maker here for 44 years, were held at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at Halls Baptist Church. Dr. O. W. Taylor of Nashville and the Rev. R. J. Cooper officiated. Burial was in the family plot in Halls Cemetery with Halls Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Simmons, who 67, died at home here Tuesday morning. He had been in ill health for several years but had remained active in his business until recently. He was a deacon of the Halls Baptist Church and for many years served as church treasurer. He was a Mason for 28 years. Born in Dyer County, Mr. Simmons came here many years ago and opened a harness repair and shoe shop, later stocking shoes and work clothing as well as other men’s clothing items. Dr. Lerra Bernard Simmons, Obion dentist for 11 years, - who was the brother of Thomas Simmons, of Halls, was found dead in his office last Friday morning. Obion County Coroner Barry WHITE said Dr. SIMMONS, who was 34, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his left temple. A 38-caliber automatic pistol was found in his hand and there was a note to the family. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Methodist Church, burial in Halls Cemetery. Dr. Simmons, born in Halls, received pre-medical training at Memphis State University and his dental surgeon’s degree from the University of Tennessee Dental College at Memphis in 1957. He established his Obion practice the same year. He was a member of First Methodist Church and Delta Sigma Delta, dental fraternity. Dr. SIMMONS leaves his wife, Carolyn Hughes SIMMONS; daughters, Beth SIMMONS, Laura SIMMONS and Susan SIMMONS; brothers, Lee SIMMONS, of Dyersburg and Thomas SIMMONS, of Halls.

Mrs. Lyda Murchison Simmons, daughter of William Murchison and wife, was born April 11, 1887. She was married to Ira W. Simmons Oct. 26, 1905, and to this union was born two sons, Thomas Hilton Simmons and Wilburn Simmons, She professed faith in Christ about twelve years ago and joined the Baptist church at Halls, in which church she lived a consistent faithful life until her death which occurred May 7, 1919. She was 32 years, and 26 days old. Mrs. Simmons was also a member of the Eastern Star and Woodman Circle. She leaves an aged mother, three brothers, three sisters, her husband and two sons, together with a host of friends to mourn her departure. She was a good Christian woman, a kind neighbor, a loving devoted wife and tender mother. She will be missed; her seat will vacant in the home and in the church, but her suffering is ended, her troubles are over and she has entered into the realms of peace in the life that knows no end, Then let us look beyond the grave and think of her as having put on the robe of immortality and gone to be a guest of that heavenly city. Funeral services were conducted at the Halls Baptist Church Thursday afternoon by Rev. R. E. Downing, her former pastor, and her body laid to rest in the City Cemetery, her grave being covered with flowers.

Thomas Hilton Simmons, prominent and highly respected young business man of Halls and a Mason, died at 8:30 Saturday morning following a heart attack. He was 36 years of age, ill since Tuesday, Mr. Simmons suffered a heart attack early Friday morning and succumbed to a second attack Saturday. Services were held at the First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, with the Rev. B. R. Winchester, pastor, saying the final rites. A native of Halls, Mr. Simmons was graduated from Halls High School in 1925. Following his graduation for a number of years he was in business with his father. Some four years ago he established the T. H. Simmons Men’s Store which he was operating at the time of his death. He was a member of the Halls Baptist Church and had served as general secretary of the Sunday School for a number of years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma Sue Hastings Simmons, three sons, Thomas, Jr., Bernard and Lee; his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Simmons, Sr.; one brother, I. W. Simmons, Jr.; four half-brothers, Billy, of the U. S. Marines in Guadalcanal, Frank, of the Naval Air Corps Reserve, and Cecil and Clyde and one half-sister, Mary. Active pallbearers were; Fred Ragland, F.W. Hurt, A.W. Williams, W.S. Perry, Leonard Andrews and R.V. Lilley. Honorary pallbearers were; Winston Daws, Morris Currie, J.O. Thompson, Jim Jaynes, W.H. Bailey and G.P. Davis. Fellow members of the Masonic Lodge also served. Burial was in the City cemetery with Evans, Lasiter & Garner in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lillian Sweat, 61, of Halls, was killed about 10;30 a.m. Wednesday in a two-car accident a mile north of Friendship at the intersection of Mount Moriah Road and Tennessee 20, the Highway Patrol said. Trooper Frank Dillard said Mrs. Sweat was riding with Linda Wallace, 29, also of Halls, when the car was hit almost broadside by a car driven by E. L. Davis, 24, of Southaven. The southbound Wallace car was unable to stop because of wet brakes caused by high water on the road and drove into the path of the eastbound Davis car, Dillard said. The drivers and Daisy Butler, 61, of halls, a passenger in the Wallace car, were treated in Parkview Hospital in Dyersburg and released. RIPLEY -- John Franklin Wright, 87, retired civil engineer and farmer, died Thursday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Lauderdale. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Halls Funeral Home with burial in Halls (Tenn.) Cemetery. He was a member of First Christian Church of Halls. Mr. Wright, the widower of Miriam Brandon Wright, leaves two daughters, Julia Dunaway of Cordova and Alice McCoy of Ripley; a son, Johnny L. Wright of Ripley; a sister, Mrs. Ware Henderson of Memphis, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Hardy L. Wyse died Sunday at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. KNOX WYSE in Alamo. A native of this county, he operated a store in Maury City when a young man and moved to Halls about 50 years ago. He lived with his son, KNOX WYSE in Pasagoula, Miss., and after the death of the son, moved to Alamo two years ago. Another son, IVAN WYSE, died in Memphis about three years ago. IVAN WYSE had two daughters, Mrs. KEITH DAVIDSON of Memphis and Mrs. HUBERT HAAGA of Philadelphia, Miss., who survive. Services were held at the First Baptist Church, Halls; burial in Halls

Services for Knox Wyse, former Halls undertaker, who died Thursday afternoon at his home in Pascagoula, Miss., were held Saturday afternoon at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo. Mr. Wyse moved to Pascagoula several years ago. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Wyse, and his father, H. L. Wyse, both of Pascagoula.Burial was in Halls cemetery.

Services for Mrs. Beulah Young, lifelong resident of the Chestnut Bluff community were held at 10: 30 a. m. Friday at the Chestnut Bluff Church of Christ, burial in Halls Cemetery. She was 48, she died Wednesday night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. W. YOUNG, of Chestnut Bluff. She had been ill several years.
