Wymond Junior Reynolds, 20 year old resident of Halls, died of drowning about 9 o’clock Saturday night when the car in which he was riding left Highway 51 just north of South Fork bridge and went into a water filled pit. Dr. Lerra Bernard Simmons, Obion dentist for 11 years, - who was the brother of Thomas Simmons, of Halls, was found dead in his office last Friday morning. Obion County Coroner Barry WHITE said Dr. SIMMONS, who was 34, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his left temple. A 38-caliber automatic pistol was found in his hand and there was a note to the family. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Methodist Church, burial in Halls Cemetery. Dr. Simmons, born in Halls, received pre-medical training at Memphis State University and his dental surgeon’s degree from the University of Tennessee Dental College at Memphis in 1957. He established his Obion practice the same year. He was a member of First Methodist Church and Delta Sigma Delta, dental fraternity. Dr. SIMMONS leaves his wife, Carolyn Hughes SIMMONS; daughters, Beth SIMMONS, Laura SIMMONS and Susan SIMMONS; brothers, Lee SIMMONS, of Dyersburg and Thomas SIMMONS, of Halls.

Mrs. Lyda Murchison Simmons, daughter of William Murchison and wife, was born April 11, 1887. She was married to Ira W. Simmons Oct. 26, 1905, and to this union was born two sons, Thomas Hilton Simmons and Wilburn Simmons, She professed faith in Christ about twelve years ago and joined the Baptist church at Halls, in which church she lived a consistent faithful life until her death which occurred May 7, 1919. She was 32 years, and 26 days old. Mrs. Simmons was also a member of the Eastern Star and Woodman Circle. She leaves an aged mother, three brothers, three sisters, her husband and two sons, together with a host of friends to mourn her departure. She was a good Christian woman, a kind neighbor, a loving devoted wife and tender mother. She will be missed; her seat will vacant in the home and in the church, but her suffering is ended, her troubles are over and she has entered into the realms of peace in the life that knows no end, Then let us look beyond the grave and think of her as having put on the robe of immortality and gone to be a guest of that heavenly city. Funeral services were conducted at the Halls Baptist Church Thursday afternoon by Rev. R. E. Downing, her former pastor, and her body laid to rest in the City Cemetery, her grave being covered with flowers.

Thomas Hilton Simmons, prominent and highly respected young business man of Halls and a Mason, died at 8:30 Saturday morning following a heart attack. He was 36 years of age, ill since Tuesday, Mr. Simmons suffered a heart attack early Friday morning and succumbed to a second attack Saturday. Services were held at the First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, with the Rev. B. R. Winchester, pastor, saying the final rites. A native of Halls, Mr. Simmons was graduated from Halls High School in 1925. Following his graduation for a number of years he was in business with his father. Some four years ago he established the T. H. Simmons Men’s Store which he was operating at the time of his death. He was a member of the Halls Baptist Church and had served as general secretary of the Sunday School for a number of years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma Sue Hastings Simmons, three sons, Thomas, Jr., Bernard and Lee; his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Simmons, Sr.; one brother, I. W. Simmons, Jr.; four half-brothers, Billy, of the U. S. Marines in Guadalcanal, Frank, of the Naval Air Corps Reserve, and Cecil and Clyde and one half-sister, Mary. Active pallbearers were; Fred Ragland, F.W. Hurt, A.W. Williams, W.S. Perry, Leonard Andrews and R.V. Lilley. Honorary pallbearers were; Winston Daws, Morris Currie, J.O. Thompson, Jim Jaynes, W.H. Bailey and G.P. Davis. Fellow members of the Masonic Lodge also served. Burial was in the City cemetery with Evans, Lasiter & Garner in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lillian Sweat, 61, of Halls, was killed about 10;30 a.m. Wednesday in a two-car accident a mile north of Friendship at the intersection of Mount Moriah Road and Tennessee 20, the Highway Patrol said. Trooper Frank Dillard said Mrs. Sweat was riding with Linda Wallace, 29, also of Halls, when the car was hit almost broadside by a car driven by E. L. Davis, 24, of Southaven. The southbound Wallace car was unable to stop because of wet brakes caused by high water on the road and drove into the path of the eastbound Davis car, Dillard said. The drivers and Daisy Butler, 61, of halls, a passenger in the Wallace car, were treated in Parkview Hospital in Dyersburg and released. Hardy L. Wyse died Sunday at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. KNOX WYSE in Alamo. A native of this county, he operated a store in Maury City when a young man and moved to Halls about 50 years ago. He lived with his son, KNOX WYSE in Pasagoula, Miss., and after the death of the son, moved to Alamo two years ago. Another son, IVAN WYSE, died in Memphis about three years ago. IVAN WYSE had two daughters, Mrs. KEITH DAVIDSON of Memphis and Mrs. HUBERT HAAGA of Philadelphia, Miss., who survive. Services were held at the First Baptist Church, Halls; burial in Halls

Services for Knox Wyse, former Halls undertaker, who died Thursday afternoon at his home in Pascagoula, Miss., were held Saturday afternoon at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo. Mr. Wyse moved to Pascagoula several years ago. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Wyse, and his father, H. L. Wyse, both of Pascagoula.Burial was in Halls cemetery.
