She moved to Ripley from Memphis 35 years ago, returning to Memphis after the death of her husband 11 years ago. She leaves her daughter, Mrs. Ernest WILSON, of Memphis. TAKEN FROM POND--The body of James Roy CAPERS, 16, was recovered Wednesday morning from a pond on the farm of Austin KELLER, about a mile east of Henning. Chief Deputy Lreis GITCHELL said the negro youth's clothes were folded nearby, and he had apparently drowned while swimming Sunday, the last day he had been seen.

A native of Crockett County, she was the widow of Chester GUNTER, who was killed in a service station hold-up in Memphis in 1927. Joe HACKETT, 68, retired contractor, drowned Tuesday morning in Open Lake. His boat was discovered in midmorning, racing in circles and his cap floating nearby. Eleven boats directed by Sheriff Gwinn MATTHEWS, searched for his body until late afternoon, when it was recovered from water only a few feet deep, but with a thick layer of soft mud underneath, in which one of his feet was lodged. Services were Thursday in Ripley Funeral Home, burial in Grace Cemetery. He leaves his son, Joe W. HACKETT, of Ripley and his daughter, Mrs. Walter FISH, of Henning; and his brother, Will HACKETT, of Santa Barbara, Calif.

CRASH--John D. HAYES, 24, of Forked Deer; Mrs. Louise Butler CASON, and her husband, George W. CASON, of Trenton, were killed about 3:15 p.m. Sunday in a collision at the intersection of 54 and 152 Highways, about six miles north of Alamo. The CASONS were returning to Trenton, after having sung in the annual reunion services in Trinity Methodist Church at Nut Bush. State Trooper Charles SLAYTON quoted Mr. & Mrs. Billy POUNDS, of Memphis, witnesses, as saying Mr. HAYES' car ran a stop sign and struck the side of the CASONS' car. Services for Mr. HAYES were Wednesday in Eureka Methodist Church, burial in church cemetery. He leaves his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Samuel R. Robert S. JAMES, 70, husband of Mrs. Elva Rudd JAMES, formerly of Ripley, died Tuesday of last week in his home in Donelson, after a heart attack. Graveside services were in St. Paul Cemetery at Durhamville. A native of McNairy County, he was educated in Shannon, Miss., schools. He was employed by Western State Hospital in Bolivar before he joined the Staff of Clover Bottom Hospital and School in Donelson, where he was general supervisor of boys from 1953 until his retirement four years ago. A veteran of WWI &WWII, he was member of American Legion Post 88, he was a Baptist. He leaves several neices and nephews.

CRASH--Donald Earle SANDLIN, of Ripley, a sophomore in U. T. at Martin, was injured in a head-on collision on Highway 22, about two miles east of Dresden, shortly before midnight Saturday, which claimed three lives. He was taken to Baptist Hospital, Memphis, where his condition is reported as fair. Also injured was Miss Doris Ann BENTHAL, of Greenfield, a freshman of U. T. M., who reached Baptist Hospital in critical condition. Killed were the UTM students who shared their car; Jeffery Wallace SMITH, 21, of Bolivar, the driver; and Miss Linda COPPEDGE, 21, of Brownsville, both juniors; and Mr. Russell FLACK, 74, retired cabinet maker of Dresden, driver of the east bound car.

Marvin P. SAVAGE, 64, of Highway 51, north of Ripley, owner and operator of Savage Cabinet Shop, behind his home, was dead on arrival at Lauderdale County Hospital at 5:45 p.m. Monday. He had collapsed, presumably from a heart attack, at the wheel of his car in the Curve cut on Highway 51. Alfred SCALLIONS, who was also in the car, seized the wheel and guided the car as it plunged down an embankment. It did not overturn, and Mr. SCALLIONS was not injured. Mr. SAVAGE had pursued a car which struck his mailbox. Services were Wednesday in Ripley Funeral Home, burial in Lauderdale County Memorial Gardens. Dr. Lerra Bernard SIMMONS, Obion dentist for 11 years, was found dead in his office last Friday morning. Obion County Coroner Barry WHITE said Dr. SIMMONS, who was 34, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his left temple. A 38-caliber automatic pistol was found in his hand and there was a note to the family. Services were Sunday in First Methodist Church, burial in Halls Cemetery. Dr. SIMMONS leaves his wife, Carolyn Hughes SOMMONS; daughters, Beth SIMMONS, Laura SIMMONS and Susan SIMMONS; brothers, Lee SIMMONS, of Dyersburg and Thomas SIMMONS, of Halls.

Mrs. Frances WRIGHT, 63, of Flint, Mich., died Sunday in a hospital in Flint. Services were Tuesday in Flint. She leaves her husband, Hunter WRIGHT; son, James WRIGHT, of Flint, sisters, Mrs. Mildred FOWKLES, of Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Rebecca McBRIDE and Mrs. Hallie CHASE, both of Flint; brothers, Aubrey WALSH and Page WALSH, both of Ripley, Charles WALSH, of Jackson, Miss., and B. P. WALSH, of Berkeley, Calif.

TAKEN FROM RIVER--The body of Carl YOCHUM, missing for a week from the night spot he operated near Ripley, was found Monday in the Old Forked Deer River, lodged against a log about 50 yards west of the bridge on Barr Road. Mrs. Luther PRATER, of near Ripley, spotted the fully clothed form at 12:30 p.m. as she drove across the bridge, where she had seen Dyer County Civil Defense workers searching Sunday. Sheriff Gwinn MATTHEWS and chief deputy Lewis GITCHELL recovered the body. They said YOCHUM had been shot in the midsection. The body was sent to Memphis for autopsy. YOCHUM had disappeared about midnight May 19th from the Bluff View Inn, Highway 19, atop the Ashport Bluff near Ripley, which he owned and operated. His buck-shot riddled truck mired in mud, and his ring were found amid splotches of blood on the grounds of the Inn. Sheriff MATTHEWS, who had headed an intensive investigation into the apparent ambush, plans to confer with district attorney general, Will Terry ABERNATHY in Ripley Friday about evidence gathered in the case.

Pleasant Cemetery. He leaves his daughters, Mrs. Rosie LEMONS, of Ripley and Mrs. Carla LATHAM, of Ripley; brothers, Paul YOCHUM, of Dallas, Texas, Dee YOCHUM, of Chicago. Ill., and John R. YOCHUM; sisters, Mrs. Ruth SHEPPARD, of Ripley, Mrs. Hershal CHIPMAN, of Mary's Chapel, Mrs. C. N. KNIGHT, of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Clara SIMPSON, of Long Beach, Calif.

Charles Eugene YOUNG, Sr., 50, retired Master Sergeant in the Air Force, died at 11 a.m. last Friday in Millington Naval Hospital, which he entered four weeks earlier. Services were Sunday in Ripley Funeral Home, burial in Lauderdale County Memorial Gardens. Born in Lauderdale County, he spent all his life here except for eleven years he spent in the Navy and the eleven years he spent in the Air Force. He leaves his wife, Dorris Scott YOUNG; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Robert YOUNG; daughters, Brenda Kay YOUNG and Tamara YOUNG, all of Ripley; and his brother, Steve YOUNG, of Winston-Salem, NC.
