I am looking for information on my GRANDFATHER ---WILLIAM ROBERT LAY -DOB: 1-10-1852
May have been born in "LOOK OUT MOUNTAIN" or MEMPHIS. He was only about 5 years old when one of his parents died. The remaining parent remarried and then died. This left him with a step-parent who also remarried. He thought his father's names was "SILAS LAY" his mother was ELIZABETH SMITH or BROWN. He tells the story of being raised by an "UNCLE BILLY" who was mean to him. He ran away at age 12 to live with a NEGRO WOMAN in MISSISSIPPI. The reason he ran away was due to the fact that he was caught making knives with the slaves and was sentenced to jail in Mississippi, on the way to jail he escaped. HE SAID THAT HE WORKED ON THE MISSISSIPPI PADDLE BOATS, then went on to Texas and served as a Texas Ranger.
WE FOUND HIM IN THE 1880 UTAH CENSUS LISTED AS SINGLE MALE AGE 25. Please contact me at my e-mail address with any information - LPlain5572@aol.com
WE HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THE STEP PARENTS NAME COULD HAVE BEEN "WRIGHT" THANK YOU.

I am looking for family of Bennie (I believe Benjamin) SHARP. I am the grandaughter of his biological brother Charlie B. LETT.
Bennie was adopted by a family by the name of SHARP in the early 1900's. They lived in and I believe he was raised in Chattanooga
The last time anyone recalls this is probably in the 1920's or 1930's. It is known that Bennie Sharp married and had at least two daughters one possibly named Helen. One of his daughters lived in Florida as recently as the 1950's or 1960's.
Someone in our family seems to recall the Sharp family haad possibly donated land that a college in Chattanooga was built on. But no one knows which one.
His brother Charlie B. Lett was born in 1882 and died in California in 1963.
My grandfather, Charlie B LETT lived in Gainesville Texas for quite a number of years before moving to California.
Charlie B LETT was married to Rosie Lee Phillips and had 7 children with her.
Any information would be greatly appreciated, we have no knowledge of my grandfather's family other than this.
Thank you
