I am looking for information about my father Clayton Earl WINTERS who lived in Chattannooga from at least 1940 until his death in the late 1980's. He was married to Sally Mae SMITH who changed her name to Sara at some point and also died in the 1980's. I have newpaper clippings of war years record of his being in a 6 star family, brothers, Clifford, Waymon or Wayne, Bill, George, and one sister Clittie. They lived on Holtzclaw Avenue. It is said my dad was born in the house there but there is also some indication that he moved up from Georgia at some early age.
He and his brothers sang at the Memorial Audiotorium for nearly 20 years, doing backup for some of the old greats. We used to have these folks over in the early 50's for Sunday dinner. Many wonderful memories of his life and music. Was some relation to June Carter CASH but not sure how. He was a sheet metal worker and fell once 3 storys and made papers again as he was being taken to hospital. Need family history and don't have much to go on. Did not marry until he was around 50 at that time and married Sally Mae (SMITH) HEMBREE, a widow with 3 of her own children. His nickname was "Chillie" WINTERS and was very popular. Many old friends came to visit over the years. Any help would be appreciated. My Mother had been a SMITH at birth then a HEMBREE who was a baker and was killed in an auto accident sometime in the 40's. She worked at Cambells Clinic for many years. Then my Dad married her and they were both from large familys. Need anh help I can get. Thanks

I am hoping to find the death place of Peter KIMMEY or KIMMY. He lived to be about 100 so that would make his death in the latter 1930's. His grand daughter Olive KIMMEY lived in Hixson in 1938 when she applied for her social security and it is very likely that she may have cared for him in his old age.
Will someone please look for a death notice that will hopefully lead to an obituary?

I am looking for information regarding Morris Louis PEARLMAN and his family who lived in Chattanooga, TN in the early part of the 20th century. On the 1920 U.S. Census, the family is living at 303 West Eleventh St. At that time, Morris was 50 years old. He immigrated from Poland to the U.S. in 1896 and was nationalized in 1901. His wife, Gussie, was 48 in 1920, and it appears that they came over to the U.S. together. Their children are: Abe, age 20 (a WW I veteran); Bennie, age 18; Lena, age 17; Harry, age 14; Aaron, age 10; Sara, age 7; Myron, age 6; Hyman, age 4. All of the children were born in Tennessee. Also, living with the family is their son-in-law, Wolf BADIKOFF, age 25, and his wife (their oldest daughter) Sadie, age 23. The BADIKOFF's owned a grocery, and I believe that Morris might have worked in that store. Also, the two oldest sons were employed by a newspaper. I would really like to know more information about how the family came to live in Chattanooga. (I have been unable to find Morris and Gussie on the Ellis Island website.) I am interested to know if they were affiliated with any of the Jewish congregations in Chattanooga. Also, I would like to know what happened to the family members after 1930. My mother-in-law last saw Myron around 1936 when he was often using the name "Danny DUNDEE." Any and all information would be appreciated regarding both the PEARLMAN family and the Jewish community in Chattanooga at that time.

There could also have been daughters, Bertha (no further info) and Martha who md John (Hugh) WALLIN/WALLEN. Lived in Dade Co for a while.
Benj (sr) died toward the end of 1860 as his will was recorded in early 1861 in Dade Co. The estae was left to wife, "Polly" with everything going to dau, Bartheny SAVAGE at Polly's death. Son, Benj F. was executor. It is not known when "Polly" died, however, son, Benj F., died in 1888.
Benj F.'s grave and that of his son, Benj. J are the only two that are marked in the family cemetery.
The known children of Benj F and Harriett were Frank, Robert, James and Benj J (who died at 10 years of age). Frank is buried in the old Magill Cemetery in Wauchatchie. Someone is caring for his grave there.

I am looking for information on the ALLRED family who lived in St. Elmo from at least 1880 until approximately 1920. The name is also sometimes spelled ALREAD, though this occurs only after 1901. My husband's great-grandfather was William Blackstone ALLRED. He was born in Overton County, TN in 1826 and died in St. Elmo in 1901 (buried in the Chattanooga Confederate Cemetery). In 1877, he married Loraine SHAW (nee SPARKS) in Hamilton County. Loraine was a widow with two daughters from her previous marriage. (She is buried at Forest Hills.) After their marriage, they settled in the Lookout Mountain/St. Elmo area, and some family members think that some members of the SPARKS family owned property on Old Wauhatchie Pike prior to this date.The daughters from the 1st marriage of Loraine SPARKS were: Anne SHAW married John BLAYLOCK in 1880; Josephine SHAW married Robert L. BICE in 1889.The BICE family ran the Incline.
Both the BLAYLOCK and BICE families remained in the St.Elmo/Chattanooga area. Josephine died in 1912, and Anne died in 1942. William Blackstone ALLRED and Loraine SPARKS had the following children: Charles Frederick ALLRED, born 1879. He died in 1955, and he is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery. Although the family refers to him as "Uncle Fred", he is buried under the name Charles Frear ALREAD;
Isabell ALLRED (called Issie) was born in 1881. Her first husband was Frank FOWLER, and he is buried in Forest Hills along with their adopted daughter who died at age 2. Her second husband was Mr. BROWN. She married a 3rd husband after she moved to Cleveland, Ohio;
Lorraine ALLRED (called Lula) was born in 1883. She later marries in Alabama and moves to Cleveland, Ohio;
William Bailey ALLRED (called Bud or Bud Bailey) was born in 1885. Although he dies in Cleveland, Ohio in 1919, he is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga. His death certificate refers to him as William ALREAD, but the obituary in the Chattanooga newspaper calls him Bailey ALLRED;
Beulah ALLRED was born in 1891. She later marries and moves to Birmingham, Alabama. My father-in-law, Jimmie Lou ALREAD is the son of William Bailey (Bud) ALLRED and Effie HOUSE. He was born in St. Elmo on July 4, 1914, and he died in Edgewood, KY on October 4, 1995. Unfortunately, Bud and Effie separated, and Bud died in 1919. Therefore, my father-in-law did not get to know much about the ALLRED side of the family. However, he did live in the Chattanooga area until he married in 1936.The family name was changed from ALLRED to ALREAD between 1901 and 1905. My husband has discussed this with numerous family members and has received varying explanations. One things is certain, however, it was NOT a clerical error. The family purposely changed the last name.If you have any information on this family or if you can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Am seeking information on a Lewis ROGERS, or Lewis G. ROGERS, born 1851, married to Margaret GOTHARD, all of whom were from the Rhea Co., Hamilton Co., Goose Pond Creek area. I have no other data on Lewis' parents/siblings, so any data would be appreciated.
On Chatanooga.com is an article regarding the ROGERS and STANDIFER families. Nancy ROGERS is mentioned, with a son named William. William is listed as having a son Lewis,(listed in the 1850 and 1860 census) but the birthdates are off, so I'm not sure if this is the right Lewis. I thought folks from the STANDIFER lineage may have more details on this.
Thanks for any help/ideas.
