CRASS

Cathy CRASS McCause Tue Apr 24 04:28:44 2001
Looking for information on CRASS. John T. CRASS was a contractor who built the Incline Railroad. He was the older-half brother to James Edward CRASS (originally from Richmond VA) - who eventually went on to found Coca-Cola Bottling company. James was the superintendent over the project, working for his brother since he had a background in quarry work. In fact, James met his future business partner - Mr. Asa CANDLER - on one of the first cable car rides, with James at the wheel. Mr. CANDLER had a business proposition for him - a new idea for a beverage, but he needed a partner and someone to invent and establish a bottling process - thus, Coke in bottles. The CRASS family has roots in Richmond VA, as well as Scranton PA.
Looking for any nuggets of info. Thank you Cathy Crass McCause

ORR - FORWALTER - POWELL - TAYLOR

Steve Taylor Tue May 15 23:34:39 2001
Seeking death info on an unusual accident which claimed the lives of father & son about 1918-19-20, at the Rail Road Station/Terminal. Cecil ORR and his son Cecil (Jackson?) ORR were killed after being hit/run-over by a train 1919 or so. The father Cecil ORR's wife got his pension, and the son Cecil Jackson ORR's wife (Mary ORR) received a large cash settlement from the RailRoad board, as she had three small children, 7,4, & new-born baby. She died very soon after her husband, who died just before their daughter Ann ORR was born (1919-20?) Mary was said to have died from childbirth complications, but family tradition tells of her being poisoned for the money. The appointed guardians took the children and the money, but later gave the children to others & kept/spent the settlement. We've been searching for any news article, or obituaries, funeral notices, so we can locate their burial sites etc. We also need the grave stone data to obtain death certs etc. Is anyone up on local railway accidents in Chattanooga??? Can anyone help us locate this info &/or their graves?? We spent several days recently in Chattanooga, but had no luck with our research.!

Just heard (family rumor) that some of the FORWALTER & POWELL family may be buried at the old White Oak Cem., Red Bank area, now called Memorial Park Cem. Checked the on-line listings & found only one for Mary Ellen ORR 1933, unmarked grave. Where are the FORWALTER's & POWELL's buried? Probably in the same Cem., Memorial
Thank you for your time & kindness. Yours, Steve Taylor

SCUDGINS / SCODGINS / SCHUDGEONS / SCHUDGINS

Fred Scudgins Fri Jun 22 10:33:54 2001
I know that SCUDGINS is a variation of the English name SCODGINS. According to a family bible, my paternal grandfather was born William Haskel SKRUDGEONS on July(?) 26,1883. There are several variations of the surname in the bible and it is apparent that illiteracy was a problem. My father was born Willie SCUDGINS on September 3, 1916.
Any information, or directions you can provide will be appreciated.

By 1869 he had moved to Carroll/Boone Co. Arkansas. He married two more women: Margaret UNKNOWN and Maude Elizabeth WOLF.

BROCK

WILMA ROBINSON Mon Jun 25 08:51:56 2001
I am looking for any information on the famlies of Davis / David, Darin or William BROCK that may have remained in Hamilton county. In 1870 they lived there with their parents and siblins. Some time after 1870 their parents moved to Bledsoe county with the younger children, but I think these three may have remained in Hamilton county. Their parents were Margaret and Elihu BROCK.
Any information could be helpful and greatly appericiated. thank you for any help you can give.

PRIOR / PRYOR

Kim Wilson Fri Jun 29 09:54:31 2001
I am looking for any information on Paul M. PRIOR / PRYOR, and his wife Louisa C. PRIOR / PRYOR. I believe that Paul could have been born in Marion County, TN. I find him listed with his mother Harriet (Williams) PRIOR on the 1850 Hamilton County census. By 1860, he is married with one small child, and he is living in Walker County GA. I believe that he joined the Civil War in 1861. He is not in Walker County in 1870, so I am thinking that he may have moved back to Hamilton County. He did have more children that were born in TN. Paul's father, John Henry PRIOR died in Chattanooga (Hamilton County) in 1844. I feel that Paul came back to TN, either in Marion or Hamilton County. I am trying to find a death date and place of burial for him. Does anyone know this family? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions! Kim Wilson
