Obituary for Robert Howell Bible


BIBLE, ROBERT HOWELL - died Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the age of 96 at Morristown Hamblen Hospital.

He was born on July 28, 1908, the oldest son of Hunley A. and Laura Anderson Bible.

He was a life-long resident of Hamblen County.

A member of First Baptist Church, Mr. Bible served in several leadership positions.

He was one of the founders of the Wallen-Purkey Sunday School Class which will serve as honorary pallbearers.

He was an avid supporter of Carson- Newman College where he served on the Board of Trustees for 28 years.

Carson-Newman College awarded him an honorary doctorate degree in Public Administration in 1969. Mr. Bible founded Bible Insurance Agency in 1931 and his sons joined him in 1959 and 1960.

He was an integral part of the Morristown business community and served on numerous boards of service and charitable organizations in the Lakeway area.

Howell Bible was preceded in death by his parents, Hunley A. and Laura Anderson Bible, his wife of fifty years, Ruth Jackson Bible, and two brothers, Wilbert Bible and Lloyd Bible.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mary Marcus Bible, sons Robert H. Bible, Jr. and wife Peggy of Morristown; Raymond E. Bible and wife Barbara of Morristown, daughter Sarah Bible Demers of Manchester, New Hampshire; grandchildren Gean Ann Sing and husband Tim, Kathryn Moore and husband Scott, and Ed Bible, all of Morristown; Pat Cureton and husband Kenyn of Lebanon, TN; Bill Bible of Seymour, TN; Chris Demers and wife Linda of Barrington, Rhode Island; Justin Demers and wife Elizabeth of Arlington, Virginia; great-grandchildren Ashley Moore and Allison Moore of Morristown; Kristen Cureton and Will Cureton of Lebanon, TN; Max Demers and Ethan Demers of Barrington, Rhode Island; sister-in-law Agnes E. Bible and niece Judy Bible of Russellville; sister-in-law Jean P. Bible and niece Laura B. Gould of Dandridge; and several nieces and great nieces.

There will be a private graveside service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2005 with Danny Georges officiating.

There will be a memorial service at First Baptist Church at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 23, 2005, with Dr. William Palmer and Rev. Danny Georges officiating.

Friends will be received from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
