First Boy Scouts Troop in Crockett County

The first Boy Scout Troop in Crockett County, Tennessee was organized sometimes between 1920 and 1922 in Alamo. The first troop master was E. L. Robinson, who was the Methodist church preacher at that time. Oscar Howell, who owned a woods lot on a dirt road off the Peoples Highway let the scouts cut some logs from which they built a log cabin on the property facing the present United Methodist Church on Johnson Street. At the time, the Methodist church owned the land.

The log cabin was the Scouts meeting place, and in it they held plays and skits. Later they quit using the log cabin and the Methodist church sold the land to Will E. Brown (founder of Brown Chevrolet). Will E. Brown gave the cabin to James Grant, his son-in-law to move. At last report, it was in the possession of Charles Reece.

The only known members of the original Scouts were: Harry Howell, Warren Klyce and Hogue.
